Baldwin will confer with Feingold (WI-SEN)
Source: Politico

MADISON, Wis. -- Rep. Tammy Baldwin's official decision on a Senate race is still "some weeks away" but she tells POLITICO that she plans to confer with former Sen. Russ Feingold before she settles on what to do.

"Russ Feingold has announced that he'll make his decision prior to Labor Day and that's just around the corner," Baldwin noted in an interview with POLITICO.

While she deflected a question about whether she'd run against Feingold, the seven-term Democrat indicated she would speak to Feingold before making a final decision.

Some Democrats believe that Feingold slated his decision to be made after the state senate recalls in order to gauge the environment and ascertain the chances that a recall would be launched against Gov. Scott Walker.

While, strictly speaking, Feingold would not be running again for "his" seat, running two years after losing an election is in effect asking voter to admit they made a mistake the first time, which I think is a high hurdle for a politician.

1. It seems different to me
Wisconsinites were lied to by the Repubs and are reacting to the lies. By the time of the general election, a Dem might just be swept in as a matter of course if Dems succeed tomorrow.

2. My two cents....
I'd love to see Russ back in the Senate (Herb Kohl's seat)

Jon Erpenbach for Governor --- "Recall Walker, Recall Walker, Recall Walker"

Rob Zerban winning Paul Ryan's seat

I love Tammy. Please don't shoot the messenger, but Tammy is labeled a "Madison liberal lesbian" and I don't think she can win in this politically divided State. I'd love to fight against those slurs, but pragmatically, winning is what's necessary.

Finally, I wish "Sunspot" Johnson would resign. I'd be surprised if there isn't sufficient scandal lurking (prison labor, employees on BadgerCare apparently not enough) somewhere; Hopefully it'll be exposed.

3. Please tammy, dont run.
You are a great congresswoman and have more to offer in that role than as a failed senate candidate.

I think we are only going to pick up 1-2 seats in the recall. Do not expect "the fire" this time in Wisconsin.

4. If the past eight months of repug governance in Wisconsin
isn't already enough to lite the fire, you deserve what you get.

6. These two can sort it out.
They both know Wisconsin politics very well and they know the numbers. They know what happened last year. Last year's politics are not next years politics.

I think that Feingold could easily have the Senate seat back if he wanted it. There is a great deal of remorse over the election of Walker and a lot of remorse over the loss of Feingold. It was a disastrous election. Its more a question of whether Feingold wants the seat back. Feingold may be more ready to step up for the governors seat.

Don't count Tammy Baldwin out. There is a first time for everything. She has wanted this for a long time and she has the right to try for it. She could be the nations first openly gay Senator, and that would be a terrific thing for Wisconsin.

Feingold is much loved in Wisconsin, and I think he could have either the Senate seat or the Governor's seat, and any politician in the Democratic party would defer to him on that. There are plenty of voters willing to admit they made some terrible mistakes in 2010, a terrible mistake named Scott Walker, and another one named Ron Johnson.

7. Maybe it's me but Russ's future is as governor
If there is a recall next year, he'll be the one man to bring it all home for Wisconsin.
