Estonian defense ministry gunman shot dead by police: spokesman

TALLINN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A gunman who fired shots and set off a bomb inside the Estonian Defense Ministry building in downtown Tallinn Thursday afternoon was shot dead by the police, a defense ministry spokesman said.

The man, an ex-soldier now working as a security guard, broke into the ministry at around 3 p.m. Thursday and fired several gun shots, sending many fleeing from the windows.

He then set off a bomb after trading fires with other guards at the building, and managed to take one of them hostage.

Earlier reports had said the gunman shot himself to death after being surrounded by the police, but Defense Ministry spokesman Alo Aulik confirmed Thursday in a press conference that the man was shot dead by the police.

Sounds like a very nice country. According to Wikipedia it is highly rated for press, economic and democratic freedom and education. I think I might move there if Michele Bachmann wins the presidency.
