Elizabeth Warren Launches Exploratory Committee For Possible Senate Run Against Scott Brown
Source: Huffington Post

Elizabeth Warren, the former Obama adviser and consumer protection advocate, launched an exploratory committee Thursday, the next step toward a possible Senate challenge to Scott Brown (R-Mass.).

Warren, who returned to her post at Harvard Law School after helping create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has been recruited by Democrats in the Bay State who believe Brown is beatable in 2012.

The Huffington Post's Sam Stein reported earlier this month that Warren is being assisted by influential Democratic operatives and has been making a series of calls to influential activists and party officials in the state.

This week, Warren has been traveling around Massachusetts on a “listening tour.” The Progressive Campaign Change Committee has already raised $100,000 on her behalf.

Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL to replace one of theirs with one of ours - especially THIS one of ours? It'd be a big karmic poke in the eye with a sharp stick, for sure. Adding our insult to their injury.

3. Outrageous. A woman's place is in the house.
And in the Senate.

Actually, given the apparent dearth of good candidates for 2016, why not Warren for that other House? You know, the white one.

49. She'd do it
If no one better shows up.

That's what I get out of all of her media appearances when she was on TARP oversight and after: "Why am I having to be the one to shed light on this? Is there really no one else willing to fight for the people?"

Luckily for us, while there really doesn't seem to be anybody else, she does it EXTREMELY well.

7. Here's the write-up from the Boston Globe:
Warren forms Senate exploratory committee

By Glen Johnson, Globe Staff

Prospective US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren today filed paperwork to create an exploratory campaign committee, the next step in a possible challenge to US Senator Scott Brown.

The Harvard Law School professor and former Obama administration official also created a website - www.elizabethforma.com - to solicit donations and possible volunteers.

“I think this was always part of the plan,” said Doug Rubin, a Democratic political consultant helping Warren with her pre-campaign analysis. “The whole point is for her to engage with people and listen to their concerns. This just allows her to do more of that.”

Warren has been traveling around Massachusetts this week conducting a self-described “listening tour.”

19. This kind of puts the kabash on the "Waah, Obama is being MEAN to Elizabeth Warren" argument.
This is what I was hoping for way back when, when Barney Frank was saying "She doesn't want that 'other' job she had--she was just a temp, she has OTHER PLANS."

I like this scenario much much better.

66. Insiders and those who pay attention are excited about her running; she hasn't
gotten much play amongst those who don't pay attention...YET. I think that will change in the fall.

It's a tight state; once the "word goes forth" I think she'll get some great play. She has the skills, everything will depend on how well she does and how poorly Brown does. It won't be a cakewalk, but with money, no major errors, and maybe a few malapropisms by Mister Nekkid Senator, she could do it. Funny thing about MA, there are some folks, in this progressive (but Catholic-pocketed, even though many are lapsed) state, who harbor an unspoken and unadmitted prejudice against....women. Yes--and some of them, many of them, are the most loyal voters. I will say that Hillary softened a lot of those voters (older women, many of 'em) up, so we'll see if that helps Warren in the next go-round.

It's August, and no one pays attention to anything until the kids are back in school. The focus is on the waning days of summer, the Red Sox, and things of that nature right now.

If you have a few bucks, donate now. When she see's the quantity of people ready to get behind her, she will formally enter the ring. You know Brown will have unlimited resources thanks to the Koch brothers, I hope that we can give her a big boost of confidence by donating and showing her that the PEOPLE are behind her.

70. Agree on Warren being a good choice, though it might be prudent
to see how she does in campaigning for the primary first. To be a Senator, you must first get elected and only time will tell how good her political skills are. Few start that high. There are examples who succeeded -in my state both Lautenberg and Corzine won Senate races as their first races.

As to the jobs bill, I am not sure which one you are speaking of. The last one, which failed with 52 votes, got all the Democrats, except Akaka who did not vote. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=1&vote=00064 The jobs bill at the end of last year passed with all of the Democrats as well - http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00281 The same was true of the September jobs bill where Voinivich and LeMieux joined all the Democrats to pass - http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00237

I suspect you might be thinking of the Murray/Kerry amendment for summer jobs and the expansion of TANF. On that the Democratic noes were - McCaskill, Nelson (NE), Warner and Webb. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00045

I have never seen Baucus vote against a jobs bill.

72. I would bet that I have watched as many hearings as you have
and I really do not see it that way.

Here, the topic was jobs bills. The fact is that the reason that the September jobs bill got the two needed Republicans was because it was totally paid for. Do you have any idea what provision was included to pay for it? It was a Baucus/Kerry provision that closed several ways that people offshore money, which the CBO scored high enough to pay for the stimulus measures in the bill. Now, I know that stimulus, by definition, should not need to be paid for, but the reality was that if it wasn't, there would not be Republican votes at all.

You likely are thinking the public option. However, Baucus was an early proponent of the public option which he dropped when it was clear it could not get 60 votes. He said he was for it if it could get 60 votes. Dean's website - that had Snowe and Lincoln as yeses - when they weren't - never got to 60.

Baucus is far from my favorite Senator, but in this case, the information was wrong.

63. She will be wasted in the Senate
She is a good decision-maker with her priorities in order and the courage to lead. She belongs in an executive position, not in the Chamber of Useless Time Wasting Decision Avoiding Talkathons. I suggest we run her for President.

78. I disagree
She already has the skills she needs, for an executive position.

The only skill she could learn in the Senate is how to be unconscionably corrupt. We really don't need any more people with that skill.

This is how we get behind her. Let's get to work.
