Cuba Rejects Continued Inclusion on US Terror List
Source: Associated Press

HAVANA (AP) — Cuba is condemning Washington's decision to keep it on the list of states allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

A Foreign Ministry statement says the U.S. has no right to judge Cuba and says the island nation has an "unblemished" record fighting terrorism. The statement also accuses Washington of manipulating the issue for political ends.

2. "the U.S. has no right to judge Cuba..."
The U.S., as well as Cuba or any other nation, has the right to pronounce judgment on anything.

Whether or not they have a right to act in accordance with their judgments, depends on the nature of the action.

3. The best way to 'overthrow' the totalitarian regime in Cuba is through contact.
Free travel between the countries should have been our policy decades ago.

Raul is a kinder, gentler version of Fidel, and the country is even now moving away from dictatorship - albeit slowly.

10. Who said the goal was overthrow?
But yeah. Show Americans a relatively impoverished and still occupied country, on the receiving end of 60 years of economic warfare by the reigning super-power, that STILL gives away good healthcare.

Yeah I'm sure it'll scare the shit out of people... but not for the reasons you'd expect.

6. Maybe until the US turns over Luis Posada Carriles, the US can put itself as a sponsor of terrorism.
Since, evidently, the US knew ahead of time the plan to blow up a civilian Cubana jetliner.

8. I'd add
Our long time relationship with the Saudis, and our wink, wink, nudge, nudge attitude about the corruption there which supplies a lot of the funding that ends up with terrorist organizations. Our insatiable demand for cheap oil and the petrodollars that flow from that underwrite as much terrorism as anything I can think of.

7. As well they should.
The U.S. policy towards Cuba is so past the point of ridiculous in 2011.
As a poster above noted, banning U.S. citizens from visiting Cuba is counter-productive to any desire the government may have about ending the Castro regime.
Unfortunately, ours is not exactly a model society anymore either (what an understatement that is!). In some ways, the Cuban people may have it better then the rampant corrupt capitalism that awaits it's return to Cuba. Certainly, the oppressive elements of the Cuban government, along with the poverty, stand as a counterpoint to the scourge of all things Socialist that I fear is in Cuba's future.
