Last of the 109th heads home
April 19, 2004
Soldiers who remained in Kuwait from the Headquarters and Support Company, and Company A of the Iowa Army National Guard's 109th Area Support Medical Battalion (ASMB) based in Iowa City are completing their demobilization processing from federal active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and are scheduled to return to the Iowa City area on Tuesday, April 20.

Ryan Donkersloot of rural Wayland is among them.

The homecoming ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Iowa National Guard Armory, 925 South Dubuque Street, Iowa City. The welcome home ceremony will begin promptly after the unit arrives at the armory.

Approximately 15 soldiers will return home this Tuesday with the 109th ASMB.

The soldiers will be released to their families immediately following the homecoming ceremony.

The bulk of the unit, approximately 190 soldiers, returned to the Iowa City-Coralville area on April 1.
