Women executives could wait 98 years for equal pay, says report
Source: The Guardian

Women may have had equal voting rights since 1928, but they may have to wait another 98 years for parity in pay, research has found.

While the salaries of female executives are increasing faster than those of their male counterparts, it will take until 2109 to close the gap if pay grows at current rates, the Chartered Management Institute reveals.

The research shows that male executives continue to be paid more than women for the same roles, earning an average of £42,441 compared with £31,895. The £10,546 gender pay gap is an increase on the £10,031 from the same study last year, despite women's salaries having grown by 2.4% and men's 2.1% in the 12 months to February 2011.

Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at the CMI, said: "Our reaction to it taking almost 100 years to get any form of parity is incredible alarm. It is a position we shouldn't be finding ourselves in. It brings with it issues of discrimination and loss of skills, as women are more prepared to walk than men if they are not getting what they want." The data shows that 4.2% of women resigned during the period, compared with 3.6% of men.

1. they must have a funny definition of executive.
Especially since they note female "junior executives" make about 25,000 bucks a year; so does that mean Wal Mart store department head counts as "junior executive"?

2. Its the problem with drawing attention to UK issues
when no easy comparisons can really be made elsewhere especially given fluctuating exchange rates.

4. exchange rate =
25,000 pounds is about 35-40 grand in dollars which is decent money for someone in that field.

6. 35-40 grand is the level of a Wal Mart store manager.
Hardly what I would consider "executive" salaries. It ain't CEO pay by a long shot.

Women generally don't like the company of misogynists. Try thinking about that next time.

7. As usual, this topic brings out the misogynists of DU
Yeah, my dad left my mom and she had to work 12-16 hours a day in a fairly high ranking corporate position to make 1/3 what he did, and she raised two kids (which she rarely saw) by herself on that salary. I myself worked at a corporate job that paid women $25 and hour for the EXACT SAME JOB that they paid men $45 an hour to perform. So you know what sexists of DU? FUCK YOU VERY MUCH!!! And join your brethren in the GOP while you're at it!

9. I can see it now...
The Year 2109:

Male Exec Pay: $300 trillion / year
Female Exec Pay: $300 trillion / year

Lowly worker pay: $50 million / year, barely enough to pay the rent.
