Exclusive: Condoleezza Rice fires back at Cheney memoir

...................

Rice, in a telephone interview, also disputed a passage in Cheney's memoir, "In My Time," in which he says the secretary of state "tearfully admitted" that the Bush administration should not have apologized for a claim in Bush's 2003 State of the Union address on Iraq's supposed search for uranium for nuclear arms.

Cheney, who opposed a public apology for the unfounded claim, wrote that Rice "came into my office, sat down in the chair next to my desk, and tearfully admitted I had been right."

"It certainly doesn't sound like me, now, does it?" Rice said in the interview. "I would never -- I don't remember coming to the vice president tearfully about anything in the entire eight years that I knew him."

"I did say to him that he had been right about the press reaction" to the administration's acknowledgment that the remarks about Iraq seeking uranium in Africa should not have been in Bush's speech, Rice said.

1. Only Dick Cheney could make Condi Rice sound reasonable
and only Dick Cheney could make Colin Powell sound like a statesman.

3. I seem to remember Condi crying in a Senate hearing.
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 05:13 PM by laconicsax
To the tune of, "please don't question my integrity" or something similar when she was asked why she gave contradictory stories to different news agencies within hours of each other.

Edit: It was "impugn my integrity" to Barbara Boxer during her confirmation hearing: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/01/18/RICEBOXER.DTL&type=printable

TORTURE

both have said the only true way to know is by torture and water-boarding

I would like to for some interviewer to have a water-boarding
scene set up and see how either reacted

Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 06:41 PM by No Elephants
which one is lying? The question hurt my hair follicles.

I know! They're both lying.

Now, we just have to figure out which is lying about what.

On being questioned during an interview, Cheney made it clear that "tearfully" did not mean she was crying. Maybe they are both fudging around that issue.

30. I think Cheney is lying about what Condi says he was right about
I'm thinking she had a bit too much to drink and then sat down with Cheney and got all sloppy-drunk weepy about George-Boy and told Cheney he was right when he said Junior would never leave Laura for her.

8. And he's not even grateful to her for lying so willingly for him.
'Mushroom clouds' 'Who would have thought' etc. etc. I hope she's learned that a killer and a torturer like Cheney can never be totally appeased. You cannot ever cross them even in the smallest way.

Both of them liars, and it's fun watching what we used to be told was a totally united 'team' go at each other, so it's hard to know who is lying this time, not that it matters.

Laughing at Code Pink's demonstration, deliberately giving bureaucratic doublespeak nonsense in response to question posed during her testimony before Congress in order to run out the clock.

31. Report: Condi rejects Cheney’s ‘attack on my integrity’
Source: ABC News

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is hitting back at former Vice President Dick Cheney, who in his new book, “In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir,” reportedly accused her of being naïve during nuclear negotiations with North Korea and of misleading her superiors about the talks.

“I kept the president fully and completely informed about every in and out of the negotiations with the North Koreans,” Rice told Reuters today in her first comments on the matter.

“You can talk about policy differences without suggesting that your colleague somehow misled the president. You know, I don’t appreciate the attack on my integrity that that implies,” the former top American diplomat added in the interview.

32. Has any vice president in US history
ever so overtly claimed the kind of power Cheney claimed?

It would seem to me that Cheney is overstepping the bounds of his legal power by presuming to speak for the President.

Or am I wrong?
