Big Oil: To create jobs, let us drill more
Source: CNN

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- With job creation taking center stage in American politics, the oil industry Wednesday made a pitch for drilling more widely. With looser restrictions, the industry says it could deliver 1.4 million new jobs, boost tax rolls by $800 billion, and increase domestic energy production almost 50%.

8. "Chevron CEO says Obama should keep oil tax breaks"
That's a real headline from the San Francisco Chronicle.

Excerpt: Chevron Corp. Chief Executive Officer John Watson urged President Obama to cut regulations and expand offshore oil drilling rather than use subsidies to create jobs.

The administration should abandon efforts to repeal about $4 billion a year in oil and gas tax breaks and reconsider an Environmental Protection Agency rule on greenhouse-gas emissions to control climate change, Watson said Wednesday at a conference in Washington. The EPA regulation will raise energy costs and hinder growth, he said at the meeting sponsored by the Hill newspaper and the American Petroleum Institute industry group.

"I would be delighted to invest more in the oil and gas industry," Watson said. The industry responds to the "fiscal and regulatory environment we are given," he said.

File it under, "Doh!"

5. What they're not telling you
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:52 AM by bongbong
They're not telling you that the 1.4 million jobs will be environmental cleanup jobs, paying $10 an hour. Enough to have a fabulous existence in Tent City USA. But the job has perks! - all the cancer you can catch.

USA! USA! USA! CSA! CSA! CSA!

(CSA = Corporate States of America)
