Head of Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera resigns
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - "The head of Arab TV channel Al Jazeera said on Tuesday he was leaving the network, but gave no reason for his departure at a time when the station's coverage has played an important role in unprecedented protest movements rocking the Arab world...Leaked US diplomatic cables described the channel as a tool in Qatari diplomacy. The channel has played an important role in raising the prestige of the small, wealthy Gulf Arab state."

1. For some reason I seem to think that AJ started out totally
self-funded somehow, and vowed to be independent and beholden to no one.

But of course, real live intervened and they needed the $$$ that the Qatari government offered with the assurance they would not try to influence AJ's coverage. But we know how that goes. :(

If my recollections are correct, maybe that's why he's leaving -- unhappy with being stifled by TPTB. Kind of like Cenk's decision not to play ball with MSNBC.

3. But Al Jazeera is the only unbiased unvarnished truth in the whole world
of media! Or so it's been explained to me time after time. A tool of the Government and the Prince that backs them financially?
Pshaw.

4. When Hillary praised them on national TV it pretty cemented my suspicion
they were a front for the intelligence community.
