White House: Better P.R. Can Reverse Anti-American Sentiment
WASHINGTON — With anti-American sentiment rising worldwide, Bush administration officials say they are stepping up efforts to market America throughout the world.

Polls indicate that international opinion of the United States has plummeted in the last year, and worldwide sympathy for the United States after Sept. 11, 2001, attacks has all but dissipated.

The Bush administration spent more than $70 million after the attacks to expand broadcasts of U.S.-sponsored international news services, but such expenditures have returned to previous levels and critics say they are not enough to counter the growing tide of anti-American sentiment.

Harold Pachios, a member of the congressional Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy since the Clinton administration, said new strategies like a U.S.-based Middle East television network are in the works, however, and more funding for diplomacy is expected to come when such programs are finalized.

3. Better PR?
Just a thought,
Maybe a better foreign policy would be in order. If i recall, the US had a huge international support after 9/11; I don't think the lack of Pro-US Television is to blame for the fading of this support. Hell, even the french Newspapers wrote "We are all american" for their 9/12 headline.

5. Well, of course!
(slapping my forehead...)

It's all about PR!

How about this:

"We're really, really, nice! We're sorry that we levelled your country and killed your family members! As soon as we are done with your oil fields, we'll turn the lights back on. We promise!

Hey! Maybe you'd like a couple of McDonalds, too? Or maybe we can get WWF on the TV here...we really, really, are nice...."

That should do it. Just a little good PR.

9. Policy that respects the sovereignty of other nations might BETTER
work to turn the tide of anti-American sentiment. But that's not going to happen with this bunch. So PR - which they have been relentlessly trying in the gulf states region - to little avail - is all that is left to the (mis)administration.

10. As I see it, the only "P.R." that will work for the U.S. Internationally
is "Post Rove" and "Post Bush", et. al.!

In other words, the U.S. must have a new, legitimately elected president to reverse the "anti-Americanism" spreading around the world.

The rest of the world doesn't buy into the propaganda of this administration...regardless of the $millions spent...and, they never will!

12. This is yet another press release...
... ala Charlotte Beers. This is not at all a new initiative--it's just a slightly different tack since Beers left.

In a way, what else would one expect from an administration soaked in corporate culture and image-making. Sure, it's a branding problem. All we need do is strengthen brand America....

America as Nike....

15. They hired 5 PR firms to "sell" the most recent Iraq war....
...so they ought to know.

Check out "Weapons of Mass Deception"---which has either just been released or is about to be released. A nonfiction book that looks at what the administration did to sell this war to the US and the world.

19. This has got to be...
the most insensitive, clueless, idiotic bunch of cretins who ever ruined a once great country. The only thing that keeps me from laughing is the very real pain they cause, and the all-too-real blood they cause to be shed.

They have attained heights of arrogance not seen in my 60 years of living. They are simply beyond belief.

24. When you stink, you stink
Sewer rats have a bad reputation, if they hired a PR firm to make over their image by spraying them with lavender they might smell better for awhile...But underneath their makeover they're still covered with sewage, and they are still sewer rats.

...bombings, nooses, name calling, invasions, vilification of allies, and contempt for international law and diplomacy doesn't win friends no matter what you call it. The obvious distaste for the Constitution, rule of law, and consensus politics at home doesn't stand out as a shining example either. It is all part of one ugly package which is more easily recognized outside the border.

In America the PR firms, the media, and the government use normative pressures to promote the deception necessary for acceptance of unjust and immoral policies. The normative base doesn't exist overseas. This is why when you live overseas for any period, unless your completely brain washed, you begin to perceive American policy in a whole new light.

It's one of the tenets of the neocon dogma. Deception always works because the masses are too stupid to understand belligerence, aggression and oppression. WRONG!

28. Ding, ding, ding!
Teryang wins the see-gar! The poorly disguised contempt this corrupt administration has for the rest of the world, particularly when other nations disagree with the latest brainstorm from this pack of vultures, has earned us the enmity of practically every other decent country on the planet.

I'm reading Blumenthal's "The Clinton Wars," and he's talking right now about the incredible respect Bill Clinton enjoyed from every other leader he met with, and the deference the United States enjoyed during the last year or so of Clinton's administration. Blumenthal also talks extensively how Clinton enjoyed that respect, but didn't take undue advantage of it, instead inviting other leaders and other countries to put forth their own initiatives and working with the leaders to try to bring about greater comity and understanding.

It brings tears to my eyes to see what we've lost under this fraud.

26. He just doesn't get it, does he? Outside the US they look at
the substance and the policies, not the veneer.

Hope he doesn't figure this out. I like the idea of * being confused and wasting his time trying this PR and trying that PR until we can vote him out of the presidency.
