Gas prices key to Richardson's success
~SNIP~

Gov. Bill Richardson advocates more renewable-energy production to diversify the nation's energy supply, but natural gas will help shape the governor's political success in New Mexico.

The state has reaped greater-than-anticipated revenues recently because of high prices for natural gas and, to a lesser degree, oil.

Given the tax breaks he instituted for the state's wealthiest citizens, Richardson needs strong state revenue collections during the remainder of his term if he's to avoid budget shortfalls, which already loom as a possibility in the next two years, and to finance his future policy initiatives.

The Legislature convenes in January to begin work on a budget to pay for public education and general government operations in the 2006 fiscal year, which begins in July 2005 and runs through June 2006, when Richardson could be running for re-election.

1. As I drive from Abq to Pagosa Springs
or Pagosa Spring to Abq via Farmington I see massive #'s of Nat Gas wells, as well as oil wells.

I also see many, many windmills.

NM has almost as much potential as N Dakota to utilize wind....and our solar is through the roof!!!

than Farmington....solar is a big zero! Where the heck is it?
It's totally nuts. Instead of tax breaks for the upper brackets, why not some big breaks for solar?? Heck, Carter/Dem tax policy had them 25 years ago!

4. Psst
this wasn't posted to support Richardson's oil hoopla. If you read the article it points out his " tax cuts to the wealthy" how he is destroying the budget with spend, spend, spend. ( He came in with a surplus.) and all he can do is brag, brag ,brag. He sounds like bush to me.
