Al-Qaeda attacks ahead of US election will be foiled: FBI chief

BEIJING, (AFP) - US Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Robert Mueller says any Al-Qaeda attacks ahead of this year's US presidential elections will be foiled as America is on high alert and terrorists would be found.

"We want Al-Qaeda to know that while the threat level may not go up, the United States will be on high alert," Mueller told journalists during a visit to Beijing.

"If you (Al-Qaeda) do come to the United States and do believe that you can undertake a terrorist attack, we will be on you, we will be there overseeing you and we will be following you and we will be trailing you because our security will be on high alert," he said.

Of specific concern would be the national conventions of the Republican and Democratic Parties ahead of November presidential elections, and the Athens Olympic Games (news - web sites), he said.

Does this mean that Mueller has a crystal ball, or do they know about a specific attack that is being planned, but are sitting on it until the time is right (i.e. when Bush most needs a boost) regardless of the risk to the American people ?

Several members of the administration have all but stated that an attack on U.S. soil will happen in an attempt to influence our presidential election. Now Mueller is saying that the attack will be foiled. I must conclude that the chimp will then be made to look like a hero for "saving" us and his numbers will skyrocket just in time for November.

Christ, sounds like they have a plan -- is this an open LIHOP/MIHOP, or will it be just a "lucky guess" on their part? Is this why Ridge is going to let the airports go back to pre-9/11 security levels again? Is this why Ridge said that our ports are insecure (because we just can't afford to secure them)? Are they INVITING something to happen?

On the other hand, they could fabricate a "foiled attack" completely out of thin air to make the grinning, kill-happy frat boy look like a hero, and to restore faith in our intelligence gathering, and who would ever know that the "foiled attack" was not real?

Given the amount of truth that's been leaking out about the Regime and how it sat on its ass during the runup to 9/11, bu$h's handlers are just about going to have to let something happen, aren't they?

They hope it stays "small," with a couple of dozen deaths, maybe a hundred or so injuries--and probably in a state that will go Democratic in the election anyway.

It won't be enough to simply say that an attack has been foiled. They're going to have to catch one in progress and "stop" it. This time, they'll have to show us, instead of just telling us.

Clinton would have been in prison long before this point.

But we could do absolutely nothing to stop/thwart those attacks on 9-11 because of lack of detailed information as to who, where, when, what flights, but now we can absolutely, positively stop any possible threat/attack. Is there some big disconnect here?

Is this transparent or what? "We're watching you, we're gonna get you, you'd better watch out, you bad guys." Yeah, that'll stop them. If anything, this macho posturing will make the terrorists try harder to prove Mueller wrong. This is pure propaganda aimed at US, not at terrorists.

Reassurances from him are alarming. He's done so poorly on his job so far.

Condition the popular response well in advance(and be sure that is successful). Perfect the timing. Fill the electorate with the same false fear that the terrorist himself could wish for when no polling place itself would ever be a place of danger.

Go out and vote, We will stop them from massacring you like sheep wherever you turn out to vote. Don't be afraid. You are safe, safe against the deadly onslaughts they are ready to unleash at any time, any place, especially if you go out and vote.

If it isn't crafted to have just that right effect it should be in the textbook anyway.

If I were Al Qaeda I might consider it such. It may just cause them to become more intent upon showing up the US and I just read in yesterday's paper that the Federal Government is considering relaxing airline security put into place shortly after 9-11. America is still an easy target if one really were to make an effort. I think all this is just a way of keeping "Terror" in the news and Americans terrorized. Fear fear fear terror terror terror is all we are going to hear from the GOP for the next eight months.
