Protesters to rally worldwide against greedy rich
Source: Reuters

Protesters worldwide geared up for a cry of rage on Saturday against bankers, financiers and politicians they accuse of ruining global economies and condemning millions to poverty and hardship through greed.

Galvanised by the past month's Occupy Wall Street movement, they plan to take to the streets from Sydney to Alaska via London, Frankfurt, Washington and New York.

Riot police prepared for any trouble -- cities such as London and Athens have seen violent confrontations this year -- but it was impossible to say how many people would actually turn out despite a rallying call across social media websites.

"I've been waiting for this protest for a long time, since 2008," said Daniel Schreiber, 28, an editor in Berlin. "I was always wondering why people aren't outraged and why nothing has happened and finally, three years later, it's happening."

1. The corporations & the wealthy should be quivering in their boots by Monday.

This has become a huge, international movement of the sort that Marx predicted.

These last five years, capitalists have seemed dead set on trying to prove Marx right after all.

7. Actually, a lot of their demands were subsequently adopted.

It was hardly a total loss.

4. I never thought I'd see such a honest headline from Reuters...
Finally, at least some of the press is dipping their "toe" into the well.

May the most ruthless and sociopathic among these greedy bastards experience just a tad of the fear of retribution--that they should have experienced long ago.

6. In New Zealand too
"About 2000 people are in Auckland's Aotea Square this afternoon as part of a global Occupy movement that began in Wall Street, New York.

About 200 turned out in Wellington and 30 in Christchurch."

(OK! Our total population is only ~4 million....!)

12. Occupy protests spread to cities around the world

The Occupy Wall Street movement spilled onto main streets in Asia and Australia on Saturday as crowds chanted and marched in a global movement of discontent.

"People of the world, rise up on October 15th," said United for Global Change -- the central site for the international movement. "It's time for us to unite. It's time for them to listen."

The group said 951 cities in 82 countries will take part in the rallies after online organizers called for a worldwide rally. Protesters planned to hit the streets soon in Europe and the United States.

15. Day of global Occupy protests gets under way
Source: MSNBC

Tens of thousands nicknamed "the indignant" marched Saturday in European cities as protests against capitalism and austerity measures went global.

Violence broke out in Rome, where Italian police fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters after some smashed shop and bank windows, torched cars and hurled bottles.

TV footage showed police in riot gear charging the protesters and firing water cannons at them. A small group of violent protesters broke away from the main demonstration in the Italian capital, part of worldwide protests against corporate greed and austerity measures.

The ANSA news agency said some protesters trashed offices of the Defense Ministry and of a labor agency, smashing windows with clubs, throwing paper bombs and firecrackers and setting cars on fire.

Most of the violence took place near the Colosseum.

19. The worldwide protests headlined BBC News all day yesterday,
and were also featured on the ABC (Australia).

But if you live in Australia and watch only Sky News (Murdoch), you wouldn't know they were happening, anywhere. They have studiously avoided all mention of the protests for the past two weeks.

Nothing like keeping the people informed.
