Iraqi police force is being infiltrated by insurgents
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3648489.stm

The new coalition-trained Iraqi police force is being infiltrated by insurgents, a US army general has said.

Maj Gen Martin Dempsey said about 10% of new officers were rebels and a further 40% had left their jobs - but the rest "stood tall and stood firm".

"About 50% of the security forces that we built over the past year stood tall and stood firm," he told the annual meeting of the Associated Press news agency.

"About 40% of them walked off the job because they were intimidated and about 10% actually worked against us."

10. The imagery seems a little sexualized as well
"Not that there's anything wrong with that".

A 50% loyalty rate among your troops won't win too many wars.

2. Really stilted language, and odd, too.
Gen Dempsey, who commands the units in charge of Baghdad, said he believed the attacks in Basra may have been ordered to grab the headlines while other areas of Iraq were relatively calm.
He could try to imagine they are a little more serious than simply wanting to "grab the headlines." Maybe he's simply worn down. He should imagine how the citizens feel who live there.

Standing tall and firm.

but the rest "stood tall and stood firm".

Reminds me of the soldier when ask while during inspection of troops. The captain ask, how tall are you soldier? (soldier a real short guy) Seven foot five shouted back the trooper! He meant to say he was 5'7". The captain not indeed in the hearing mode, said, "good, good" we need men like you"

7. That is to be expected because the mercenary, Dyn Corp. has the
contract to "train" Iraqi police. Dyn Corp also makes smallpox and anthrax vaccines, Dyn Corp employees have been investigated for child sexual slavery in Bosnia and other crimes against humanity elsewhere.

George W. Bush aka The War President employs a lot of mercenaries that also happen to be political campaign contributors making a real killing off war and the policies of The War President
Click on Dyn Corp in the link for an update. It's like organized crime training the police, isn't it?:grr:

13. actually, this was 'breaking news' about 6 months ago
the "security forces" set up by the invaders have been a major source of information for the resistance movements throughout the occupied lands. In times of battle, for example in the recent siege and massacres against al-Fallujah or the Sadrist intifada in al-Basrah and the Madinat al-Sadr Baghdad suburb, many of the erstwhile "collaborators" openly sided with the resistance against the aggressors. The figure of 10% sounds a bit low for that.
