Libya: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Tripoli

Source: BBC News

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in Libya on an unannounced visit aimed at showing support for the Libyan people and building ties.

Mrs Clinton is expected to be in the capital, Tripoli, for only a few hours. She is the first US cabinet-level official to visit the country.

Her visit was kept secret due safety concerns and heavy security measures were in place ahead of her arrival.

Dead civilians may require more than her support.

3. Yes, I know she did good in the 90's
But in light of her being the one who helped managed to get us into a THIRD mid east war, against one of the few NON islamic governments left in the mid east, I will not lie, part of me wishes she gets a few shoes thrown at her.

4. Clinton in Libya to Extend U.S. Assistance
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Tripoli today to extend U.S. support to Libyan attempts to restore security, transition to democracy and revive the economy following the uprising that deposed Muammar Qaddafi.

Clinton will meet senior officials from the interim National Transitional Council to offer help with securing missing weapons, encourage the development of non-oil industries and provide veterans of the conflict with medical care and education, U.S. officials told reporters. She is the most senior American official to visit Libya since the revolt that dislodged Qaddafi after 42 years in power.

The unannounced visit comes four days after gun battles in Tripoli between pro- and anti-Qaddafi fighters, in the worst violence in the capital since opposition forces took charge in late August. An ongoing struggle for Qaddafi’s hometown of Sirte, about 250 miles (400 kilometers) east of Tripoli, has delayed preparations for a democratic transition and raised fears of prolonged resistance and disunity.

Clinton will talk with NTC officials including Chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril and Finance and Oil Minister Ali Tarhouni about the need to stand by their commitments to democracy and the rule of law, U.S. officials told reporters accompanying the diplomat. Libya’s interim ruling council has proposed holding elections for a 200-member national congress eight months after the end of hostilities. The congress would draft a constitution, setting the stage for multi-party elections.

5. I hope that she is well protected.
Not happy that she's also rumored to be going to Pakistan.

Great symbolism for Libya, but it is not a stable nation at this point.

:(

13. Expensive, unnecessary photo-ops for politicians don't count as "serious".

She could have sent all the dead families a copy of
your avatar for all the good it would do and not only
would it have saved the US taxpayer a fortune, it would
have avoided any comments reminding her fans how pathetic
she has been in the past.

8. shouldn't that first line really read...
"some of the Libyan people"? Those our government killed could do without her/our kind of support, I think.
