War in Iraq no excuse for missing a court date

The law in North Carolina is clear: People who miss their court dates can be put in jail, even if their crimes are minor traffic offenses.

Some Marines and sailors who were deployed to Iraq recently discovered wartime service was not an excuse to miss court unless they made arrangements before their departure.

Some of them were jailed when they returned. But most were able to get minor offenses dismissed and more serious traffic cases continued, said Bob Roupe, an assistant district attorney in Onslow County.

3. What kind of state do these yahoos live in?

In California, being in a war zone on special invitation from your own branch of the US military is considered good cause for missing a court date.
