Two Democrats might challenge Donna Edwards (Rep, D-MD-4)
Source: Wash. Post

Glenn F. Ivey, until recently the top prosecutor in Prince George’s County, is preparing to announce his candidacy for the congressional seat held by Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-Md.).

Ivey, 50, a lawyer in private practice, has been calling prospective supporters and financial backers and has hired his former spokesman, Ramon Korionoff. Ivey declined to discuss his plans, but Korionoff confirmed them Tuesday.

“He is moving full speed ahead and laying the foundation to run for the House of Representatives,” Korionoff said in an e-mail.

Ivey’s decision to jump into the race comes as Anne Arundel County Council member G. James Benoit (D-Crownsville) said Tuesday that he will explore his own candidacy. The redrawn district includes part of Anne Arundel and eliminates a part of Montgomery County, where Edwards, who is African American, has substantial political support among the growing minority population and white liberals.

1. Donna Edwards is a good liberal Dem.
If these two were actually good Dems, they would move back over the redrawn lines back to PG and AA counties respectively and challenge others who are not nearly as outspokenly liberal.

They certainly would not challenge Donna Edwards.

Although I am an expat, MD is my voting state of residence. Unfortunately, my voting residence is not in Donna Edwards's district or she could count on my vote, no matter who the challenger.

2. Rep. Donna Edwards tears into Steny Hoyer over debt
Edwards stood with progressives against the corporate tilt...

It was a battle of neighbors as Rep. Donna Edwards ripped into House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer on Thursday at a whip meeting just before Democrats sat down with President Barack Obama to discuss a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

The two Maryland Democrats don’t see eye-to-eye on a potential deal, and tensions flared, sources told POLITICO’s Huddle.

Depending on who you talk to, Hoyer was either equivocating on the question of whether entitlement changes should be part of a big deficit-reduction/debt-limit increase measure or simply arguing that Democrats need to win independents in the next election, but whatever he said at a Democratic whip meeting before the White House session did not sit well with Edwards

Edwards tore into Hoyer, witnesses said. She told the leader in no uncertain terms that Democrats had to be able to trust that he and Pelosi would have the same message at the White House meeting: No cuts to Medicare or Social Security....

5. She was also on the Board of CREW

If we let people like her get gerrymandered out by DEMS we deserve the consequences.
