High-ranking NYPD inspector transferred to Staten Island command after 'Occupy Wall Street' pepper s
Source: Staten Island Advance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The high-ranking NYPD cop caught on video blasting pepper spray at a group of fenced-in Occupy Wall Street protesters last month has been shuffled into a borough command post on Staten Island — where he lives.

Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna — who last week was docked 10 vacation days for violating NYPD guidelines following the Sept. 24 incident — was transferred on Monday from Patrol Borough Manhattan South to a position as special projects coordinator here, an NYPD source told the Advance.

He now reports to the borough command headquarters in New Dorp, just a few miles away from his Westerleigh home.

Now a celebrity of sorts, Anthony Bologna has been banished to the provinces. Nobody who's going anywhere in the NYPD wants him on their team - he's a magnet for bad publicity. He'll be able to come home for lunch, but his career is finished. Bologna will spend his days organizing Neighborhood Crime Watch events, bored out of his mind. Cry me a river, Tony. Ya screwed up right on camera. The whole world was watching when ya did it.

1. OWS should thank Tony Bologna. His act of sadistic lunacy finally got everyone's attention.
And, has set the tone for what's followed. He's earned a footnote in history.

5. Tony the Meathead
It's not evident how a guy like Tony the Meathead made rank in the first place. But he's certainly known now as trouble for any commander who chooses to engage him. His name was probably shopped around the police brass, and everybody passed. The Police Commissioner then had to ask for suggestions what to do with him.

"Special Projects Coordinator" sounds like he'll give speeches to the Kiwanis Club, and man a table on High School Career Day. He'll collect attaboys from local conservatives, but he's history.

2. Not enough
He assaulted several people. He aimed his unwarranted attack at defenseless women, and assaulted several police officers along the way. What would have happened to a protestor who took the same action? Not counting immediate arrest and beating, they would surely have criminal charges levied.

7. You aren't supposed to be allowed to police the neighborhood you live in.
Too many bad things can happen. They don't want you arresting your friends or family or letting them go and they don't want you harassing people you know but might not like. It's against department policy in Philly.

8. While I agree with that, I'd also like to see more DC cops living IN DC.
They don't give a shit about the communities* they're supposed to patrol and protect, and it really shows.

*Georgetown (a glaring exception) is a police cruiser traffic jam on the weekends.

10. .What a sadistic punishment.
An easier beat with a much easier commute.

He can even go home for lunch.

He'll make up the ten days' pay he was docked in no time ith what he saves on food and the commute.

Talk about baloney.

13. "screwed up right on camera."
That was his and the NYPD's only mistake. They will rethink their tactics and make sure this sort of thing happens with less frequency. I am referring to 'being caught on camera' and not their brutality.

23. Not enough, but...
...for a Manhattan cop, this is the equivalent of a transfer to Outer Mongolia. He's going to finish his career watching the grass grow and smelling the landfill.

32. Tony's On His Way Out
They couldn't fire him because that would be handing OWS too much of a victory. On the other hand, they can't keep him around because he's a magnet for bad publicity. Nobody wants him on their team.

Next best thing was to give him a nothing job close to home. He'll man a table on Career Day at the local high school and give speeches to the Kiwanis club. He'll be so bored after a year he'll jump at a security job. Don't go away mad, Tony.

25. Loss of vacation and transfer into a cozy job ... he should be in jail
Sitting a thousand miles away from NYC one wonders about NYPD corruption! One thing for sure there is good cops and bad cops but it’s a problem figuring out who’s who!
