Quan to Occupy Oakland: Shape up or ship out
Source: SF Chronicle

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan says the Occupy Oakland protesters camped outside City Hall need to move to a "less disruptive" location if they can't learn to behave themselves.

"They have to take some responsibility, they have to step up," she told KCBS-AM in an interview. "If they can't abide by not camping at night and they can't control the violence, they need to work with the city to move the camp to a place that will be less disruptive."

Quan told KCBS she didn't know where that new location could be, but jokingly suggested San Francisco.

Quan's administration has gone back and forth on what to do with the camp in Frank Ogawa Plaza at 14th Street and Broadway, where there are now about 165 tents. First she supported protesters, then approved a police sweep to clear the encampment Oct. 25, then allowed the tents to return.

2. I would say that the city of Oakland should worry more about not tear gassing its citizens.
Who started the violence first?

5. The whole point of the Occupy movement is to keep the complaints
of he 99% in front of the money and power elites.

Quan is part of the power elite. She should understand that she is part of that 1% that the 99% in the Occupy movement are protesting.

7. How did this puke pot get elected is what I want to know? This woman has the
social skills of a gorilla, she walks away in video with a big smile on her face, while there is extreme strife within her city. What a loser!

11. How pathetic! I hope the current recall efforts gain momentum, such
that she resigns before still more citizens are injured by her goon squads.

18. Different in Greece
There is terrible amount of police violence, but people are not kneeling down.

Greek politicians can't go anywhere public. When they are seen in public, people gather around them, call them thieves and other true words, and throw yoghurt at them. Also eggs and sometimes even stones. It's only logical - politicians order police to ristrict freedom of ordinary people and violently hurt them, so people tell politicians they are not welcome to public places and that they should just go away.

14. Quan Has United Oakland's Liberals, Moderates, & Conservatives...They ALL Want Her Out!
Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 01:03 AM by red dog 1
As to the recall campaign against her, Quan fired back Monday saying that
"the last thing we need is a divisive and expensive recall campaign".

"It was sort of remarkable that she was able to alienate both sides," said University of San Francisco political scientist Corey Cook of Quan's relationship with protesters and police. "She has no friends at this point."
