Attorney for Cain accuser says ‘series’ of incidents prompted complaint
Source: Wash. Post

The attorney for one of the women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment said Friday that “a series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances” spanning months led his client to take action. He also challenged the presidential contender’s credibility in claiming not to recall details about the incidents or her allegations.

The late-day news conference by lawyer Joel P. Bennett offered the most details to date of a scandal that has consumed Washington and the race for the Republican nomination for the past week. His account contrasts with comments made by Cain, who initially disputed the allegations but later said he recalled a single incident while he was head of the National Restaurant Association in which he compared a female subordinate’s height to that of his wife.

“Mr. Cain knows the specific incidents that were alleged,” Bennett said. “My client filed a written complaint in 1999 against him specifically. It had very specific incidents in it. If he chooses not to remember or acknowledge those, that’s his issue.”

The restaurant association also released a statement Friday confirming that it had agreed to the settlement with Bennett’s client in September 1999 “without any admission of liability.” The statement noted that Cain had denied the allegations at the time and was not a party to the settlement. The statement also said the association has waived a confidentiality requirement, giving Bennett’s client permission to speak about the allegations. Bennett said that his client, who has been married for 26 years, does not plan to do so.

2. i've been thinking, how should sexual harassment tar the harasser's reputation?
If Cain's harassment were a single isolated incident, I'd shrug if off. However, it turns out that Cain is a pervy wanker who covers up his nastiness by going to church and singing gospel.

13. I didn't want to appear as if I was branding the clergy as all corrupt.
Even though I consider religion as a whole to be.

7. There are rarely single isolated incidents in these situations.
Maybe only one was reported but just as in rape cases, for every one reported there are usually others that went unreported because of the "blame the victim" mentality that these women must endure. He is an arrogant slimeball and I for one am grateful for the women who had the strength to stand up to his disgusting misuse of power and position.

10. A single incident where a year's salary was awarded
and confidentiality requested. No, don't think this is something that should be shrugged off.

Alp, not a lot of thought has gone into the last sentence of your post. Pervy Wanker? This is not a game of name calling or equating religion with sexual harrassment. Perhaps you should try to put yourself into the shoes of the harrassed women and let us know how you would like it and deal with it.

4. I feel bad for them too. They want to stay anonymous, but how long until someone names them?
Slimeball Cain will ruin their lives, again.

8. Woops! Sounds bad for Cain.
This is far more serious than the consensual behavior involved with Weiner or even with Clinton. In the latter two cases, there is no evidence that the women were harassed against their will.

This does not sound good at all.

are so concerned about the socialist lynching of a black conservative, does anyone know if any of the harassment victims are white?
I get the feeling that white elitists are OK with white men harassing white women, and black men on black women. But a black man on a white woman? Better not lay a finger on my butterfinger.

15. So, it wasn't just because Cain held his hand to chest and said "My
wife comes up to here on me?"

Gee, who could have figured that out?

I'm so stunned. I took him at his word.
