Bush Approval Hits a Low Point in State (CA)
http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/timespoll/la-me-poll23apr23,1,4329206,print.story?coll=la-home-headlines

President Bush's popularity in California has dropped to the lowest level of his presidency amid rising public concern over his handling of Iraq and the economy, according to a new Los Angeles Times poll that found dislike of Bush driving support for his Democratic rival.

At a time of mounting American casualties in Iraq, the survey found a sharp turnaround in attitudes toward Bush's management of the war: 56% of California voters disapprove, up from 44% in July.

Most say the war is worth neither the lost lives of U.S. troops nor the cost to taxpayers. A solid majority of California voters believe Bush has no clear plan for Iraq. Two-thirds are concerned it will become another Vietnam.

The surge in public dissatisfaction with the Republican president on Iraq is among the starkest findings of a survey that illustrates the difficulties that Bush faces in trying to win California in the contest with Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry in November.

<snip>

If the election were held today, the poll found, California voters would choose Kerry over Bush, 53% to 41%, in a two-way race.

With independent Ralph Nader on the ballot, Kerry would still defeat Bush in a romp, 49% to 39%, with Nader at 6%.

5. Blue states seem increasingly to have "had it" with Bush --
with support for Kerry widening. I doubt if any true red states will ever come around. And the battleground states, unfortunately, seem still to be battlegrounds, in the midst of a disastrous war, and after recent damaging revelations.

they got it wrong the last time - when Gore won so handily very much surprising Bush predictors.

8. Bush can't win California - Kerry is ahead by way more than undecideds
If the election were held today, the poll found, California voters would choose Kerry over Bush, 53% to 41%, in a two-way race.

With independent Ralph Nader on the ballot, Kerry would still defeat Bush in a romp, 49% to 39%, with Nader at 6%.

Either way, just 6% of voters are undecided — remarkably few for an election still more than six months away.

12. military deaths in the san diego area
san diego is pretty blue right now - any military issues are usually a pretty big agenda here.

with all the bases in and around san diego (coronado, pendleton, marine depot and spawar off of pacific highway, miramar, north island, the sub base in point loma, and no less than 3 or 4 carriers docked at any given time in the harbor) .. san diego is absolutely full of military wives and families and veterans who are scared to death right now. granted, its mostly navy over here but there are quite a few marines from camp pendleton in iraq right now.

14. If what you are saying is true, does that mean the military in general
is against Bush? I always thought the military vote was assumed Republican.

16. It will be interesting to see how the military vote goes
They were Repug, but I bet after this FUBAR in Iraq, the stop-losses, the holdovers in Iraq, the KIAs and WIAs that a lot of military and their families especially will either not vote for Bush or will vote for Kerry.

I hope Kerry's service record will mean something to these military voters.

Wonder if the Repugs will be so hot to get the overseas military vote this year, especially those stationed in Iraq?

13. I still don't get
the increased support for nader. I have my problems with Kerry, but really. I guess now that they know the diebold plan is about dead they will now allow the polls to tell the truth.

18. Interesting timing on this: Diebold machines shut down, now the polls
suddenly start telling the truth!

I wonder if Diebold was shut down in ALL states, and the media realized they couldn't steal elections in ANY state, suddenly we'd start hearing the "predictions" that Bush is down in those polls, too?

The ONLY time the media says "bush is ahead", it's because they know they can FIX the election.

Come on, BBV Activists -- let's shut down the "unauditable" voting machines in EVERY State, and then we'll see how the "spin doctors" quit predicting a bush win!

We KNOW he can't win when the fix isn't in.

Look at Florida, too! If the Bills get passed in the house and Senate to force States to have ACCOUNTABILITY (paper ballots and other checks on auditability), you'll start seeing the REAL poll numbers start coming out of the woodwork!

"IT'S THE VOTING MACHINES, STUPID!!"
