PITTSBURGH -- Channel 11 News is looking into the disappearance of the district attorney who chose not to prosecute former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky more than a decade ago.

VIDEO: DA Who Refused To Prosecute Sandusky In '98 Missing Since '05

Ray Gricar disappeared in 2005. Gricar’s car and laptop were found along the Susquehanna River, but police have yet to find the former district attorney.

In 1998, Gricar made the decision not to file charges against Sandusky after a mother told university police Sandusky had inappropriate contact with her 11-year-old son.

1. So they couldn't recover the data on his computer.. how about his finances?
Surely they checked for any large large large deposits dating to about 1998 when he decided not to prosecute?

5. Wow! Just watched an episode of "Disappeared" last week
about this man. He was retiring and was going around the office asking people how to delete files off his county laptop before turning it in. They found the laptop with the hard drive taken out and smashed in the river. The FBI tried to get info from it, but couldn't. Now I see why he disappeared.

12. Lately, I'm coming to view collegiate sports in an entirely different light
I've never been big on any sports - much less giving my time & attention to what I see as a mundane distraction at best and a helluva drain of people's resources at worst. I hadn't given much thought to the extent to which TPTB will protect a cash cow like Penn State's football program. Time to reconsider, coming to realize that TPTB are every bit as malicious as any other criminal enterprise. After all, a mafia don doesn't get his hands dirty, either.

14. He didn't disappear until 7 years after deciding not to prosecute
Sandusky. The chance that the two things are linked is so remote that it isn't even worth considering. Anyway, if a DA gets murdered its because he decided that he WOULD prosecute. Who would kill him for deciding not to? The kid's mother?

16. Who said he was dead? He just disappeared.
He could be living in a foreign country for all we know. There was something incriminating on his County issued hard drive, that's why he got rid of it. Like I said in my above post, he was asking around about a program that would delete certain information on his hard drive before he turned it back in to the County. And I'll bet my left nut that it was his cover up about this case.

Over his career he must have handled thousands of cases.

18. well, what about the kid?
7 years later, would make him 18, and quite possibly very fucked up.

Then again, if that was me, I would go after the person who committed the crime against me, not the D.A.

20. Ray Gricar is drinking MaiTai's on Penn State's and Jerry Sandusky's dime somewhere tropical.
His first wife worked at PSU. She may still work there. I suspect Mr. Gricar got a suitcase full of PSU/Sandusky money and skipped town.
