Pat Tillman killed in action
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former NFL player Pat Tillman was killed Thursday while serving as an Army Special Forces soldier on a mission in southeastern Afghanistan, Pentagon officials have told CNN.

Tillman, who walked away from a $3.6 million contract as a safety with the Arizona Cardinals to join the military after the Sept. 11 attacks, was in an area where numerous U.S. troops have been killed in battles with suspected al Qaeda and Taliban fighters.

He was serving as an Army Ranger, part of the Army's Special Forces. Tillman played for the Cardinals from 1998-2001

1. What a waste
I respect him for doing what he did. But its still a waste all the same. May he and the other brave soldiers who have given their all RIP.

7. Difference being the lies about Iraq have been reported
The lies and cover-up about 911 continue largely unreported and

the questions remain unanswered and mostly unasked.

18. Yeah it is, a CIA via Pak. ISI sponsored org.
And the Taliban was, of course, a group 'we' could 'do business with' until...?

Plans to invade Afg. were ready long before 911.

Your response answers none of the questions and I will not attempt to answer them.

You cannot just dismiss it all by printing LIHOP and continue to pretend that Afg. invasion is justified.

This is not meant to be a flame, I got nothing against you, I just do not have enough info to know what to believe.

17. Wasn't he about
25yr old? Does anyone know if he was in the reserves or anything? I wonder what other families are thinking since his death has hit the airwaves--Is he more important than any of the others who they've snuck in during the nite?!

4. Ironic and tragic timing...
... this week, in Doonesbury BD -- former football hero and National Guard officer -- lost his leg (and helmet) in Iraq. The storyline has gotten a little bit of press.

Keep an eye on how the corporate press plays this story -- particularly since Tillman was on the front line against REAL enablers of terrorism, the scattered remnants of the Taliban.

5. "Recruiting Tool" pays with life
When Tillman enlisted, Arizona Sen. John McCain said, "I don't think there will be any doubts about capabilities as a soldier, but also as a recruiting tool."

19. he refused to play that part, though
After Tillman enlisted he refused all contacts with the media, prefering to be just an anonymouns soldier serving his country honorably.

13. Of course not
but neither was Princess Diana's life worth more than Mother Theresa's. But when they both died, the difference in press coverage was enormous. The press will always push what they think sells. It is wrong, but true.
