Bomb kills U.S. soldier near Baghdad
Fri 23 April, 2004 22:14

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A roadside bomb has killed a U.S. soldier north of Baghdad, the U.S. military says.

It said in a statement on Friday that the 1st Infantry Division soldier was killed when the explosive device hit a U.S. convoy near the town of Samarra, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad.

The attack brought to 510 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in combat since U.S.-led forces invaded Iraq in March last year.

Notice they are using the 510 number not the 708 one. So Reuters is now dishonoring 202 men/women who died in defense of our country by wiping them out of the reporting.

2. Eliminated either those that died in an accident or before May 1.

They'll use any excuse to whitewash the number.

4. Even the death this article is reporting doesn't count
Since there is no combat here, just a roadside bomb, this one doesn't count I suspect.

6. Yahoo has gotten the word. Don't report any more US deaths or else
They are worthless as a news source any more.

8. The total number of wounded has gone down too
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 07:16 PM by teryang
...with the new classification of returned to duty. This involves the dubious notion that if you were only nicked or lacerated by a bomb or gunshot, that you are not a significant casualty. This ignores the known significance of life threatening episodes which will turn a substantial percentage of these RTDs into service connected psychiatric cases in due time. But under the regime's method of calculation, if you can't see it, it doesn't exist. "They only nicked me."

So the total number of wounded goes from 3466 at the end of March 04 to 2468 at the end of 4/23/04. This in spite of the fact that 558 men were wounded and not returned to duty since 4/02/04 and another 416 soldiers were wounded but returned to duty. Close to a thousand wounded in one month. You could make some pretty alarming projections about the number of dead and wounded to be expected over a ten year occupation. But it's gonna get better right?
