US Secretary of State Powell: loyalty not at issue despite book

Sat Apr 24, 2:06 PM ET Add Politics - AFP to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said a book detailing the runup to the Iraq (news - web sites) war has not tarnished his reputation as soldier or diplomat.

Washington Post investigative journalist Bob Woodward's book, "Plan of Attack" said Powell found himself in a delicate position: at once arguing President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s reasons for going to war before the United Nations (news - web sites); trying to find a diplomatic alternative to the war; all the while warning Bush about possible pitfalls.

"Am I a loyal member of the Bush team? Sure," he told ABC News "Nightline" program.

"Do I give my best advice to the president, to include things that I think might go well and problems we have to look out for in any military operation or any political operation or action we're about to take? Sure, I do."

1. If it's "not an issue", then why are you acknowledging...

..that it is?

4. That's the first thing I noticed too...
...do these guys get coached on this speaking method? Maybe they are under the impression that it will make them look as if they are actually answerable for something...

5. Since he says his loyalty is not an issue
This clearly means it is an issue, and he is probably getting the cold shoulder from the rest of the BFEE. You can bet he will be kicked off the team soon, one way or another. It would be nice if the rest of the team went with him.

6. Help Wanted: House Negro Position Opening Soon.
Qualified candidate must know how to kiss ass, hold tongue, lie on call, and generally cavort in an attitude of disgraced humility. Lifetime of serving corrupt masters a plus. If delusional right wing Dems fall for your song and dance, all the better. Hours and pay negotiable--just like your soul.

9. What does his color have to do with
his unwillingness to challenge the folks in favor? His views are inconsistent with the neocon view of the ME - that has nothing to do with the color of his skin.
Call him weak, incompetent, a kiss ass, a yes man, a wimp, but "House Negro" goes into territory seen at Free Republic.

8. Here are some questions he asked himself,
after the microphone was turned off.

Colon: "Am I a vital part of the team?" Why yes, Colon, I certainly am.

Colon: "Then why do they leave me out of all their really important plots, and just come and tell me after everything's been decided? Maybe it's true that Prince Bandar is more important to George than I am......

Colon: "Well, they just want to spare me all the wasted time of discussing all this stuff. Once they have some concrete plans, then they come and ask me what I think....Yeah, that's it....
