Mitt Romney turns down The Donald
Source: Politico

Mitt Romney just told Fox News's Neil Cavuto that he won't be taking part in the Donald Trump-moderated NewsMax debate.

“I’m not participating in that," he said, per POLITICO's Juana Summers, adding that he had talked to The Donald and said, "I indicated that we just can’t make this debate; we’ll focus on the other two that we’ve got.”

1. Probably the wisest thing he could have done in a lose lose situation.
We need to know that the person big wig Republicans want as their candidate for POTUS is fearful of
Donald Trump's TV sideshows and publicity stunts.

made a fool of if he had stepped on that stage! Not that he does not deserve all the criticism he gets!

3. Stop calling him "The Donald"
It gives him legitimacy and inflates his massive ego.

5. Will they still even have the debate, then?
Edited on Tue Dec-06-11 04:59 PM by Ken Burch
It's pretty much down to Bachmann and the Lone Star Moron at this point, isn't it?

(although it would be fun to see if Cain shows up with a 40 and a blunt and heckles them.)

9. Of COURSE there'll be a debate...
Don't forget, the person he most wants to be on the stage will be...Donald Trump. The rest of them will be window dressing.

16. What about Newt Getricher?
Hasn't he already taken the bait, hook, line, and sinker? But I didn't know that Bachmann had recently done the same as well. I thought that she had her tongue buried so far up rump's rear end that she had no idea what his front end was saying. As far as Ranger Rick goes, his acceptance goes past bad decision making and straight into the realm of a media induced suicide (I guess he just couldn't remember the word 'no'). What ever happened to that little shit, Ross Perrot? I'd bet he could really entertain us at a Trump hosted circus. Kind of like Mighty Mouse on 'ludes VS Donald Duck on ego steroids.

15. Agree. (R) has practically become a caricature of a national political party.
And a particularly shallow, petty one at that. When obstructionist grandstanding is all you've got, you've failed as a party. And failed your responsibility to serve in the national interests of Americans.

It's ironic that the latest front runner in the (R) sideshow is the godfather of gridlock. (Picked up that phrase today from a media political pundit, but it's right on point.)

Would all be amusing if there wasn't so much at stake... :hi:

21. Typical Mittens - couldn't say 'no' out of the box, like Huntsman and Paul had the sense to.
Had to wait a few days to see media reaction before deciding what he thinks.

The Donald would not know how to moderate in a fair way.

32. Nah. It is understood by most that "The Donald" is not complimentary.
It is a reminder of the gargantuan ego (not justified by actual accomplishments) of the man. Supposedly it was coined by his ex wife Ivana, and was not intended as a compliment. Nicknames by wives who are destined to be ex wives seldom are.

the favorite on FR. It's hilarious. I kind of want Perry to be the nominee. I want to see him lose a ton of money when Obama is reelected.

25. Lonely Debate
With no real candidates in this debate it may just be Newt and
the Donald. I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see crazy
Bachmann and the free falling Rick Perry show up for this
entertainment based debate also.
