Arrest made in Jorelys Rivera murder case

CANTON, Ga. -- An arrest has been made in the murder of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, who was abducted and killed near her Canton home.

Ryan Brunn has been charged with the little girl's murder. GBI Director Vernon Keenan said additional charges are expected from the District attorney's office.

"We are confident that Brunn is the killer," Keenan said.

At a press conference about an hour after Brunn's arrest Wednesday afternoon, Keenan said the 20-year-old suspect was a maintenance worker at the River Ridge Apartment complex, where Jorelys lived.

1. I want to know if he did it, or is he just a convenient suspect?
Seen too much of the latter.

2. were they anticipating insurgent attacks...?
Let's see, the guy they went to arrest is in handcuffs, surrounded by cops, and clearly not a threat. The guy with the military style assault rifle isn't even looking in his direction, so the suspect is clearly not a concern to him. WTF is up with his weaponry? Is this just more militarization of police?

16. I watched a video at the link. Local newz broadcast.
Apparently (from TV interviews with various residents), the police were banging on doors and waking people up after midnight to search apartment by apartment. Not that I don't feel for the young girl's family in this tragic situation (and would want every avenue exhausted had it been my kin), but this seemed to have a lot of keystone kops action along with Rambo overkill mentality going on.

JMO.

7. I wonder how often that actually happens....
Especially given that all the cops there are already armed. All this police militarization freaks me out.

8. Maintenance worker arrested in 7-year-old's killing
Source: WSBTV.com

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Police have made an arrest in the killing of a Canton girl found dead in an apartment complex Dumpster. Channel 2 Action News was at the complex when the suspect was taken away in handcuffs Wednesday.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan identified the suspect as 20-year-old Ryan Brunn. He said Brunn, a maintenance worker of the complex, killed Jorelys Rivera in a vacant apartment adjacent to the building where she lived.

"This is a mammoth case. We believe that this horrendous crime was planned and calculated and we recovered a lot of evidence that’s going to require processing,” Keenan said at a Wednesday news conference.

12. Yeah, "OMG, he was THERE".
Sorry folks, but I would rather see the guilty party charged, convicted and imprisoned.

The PoPo just want to close a case. This one stinks.

13. I don't think so. The GBI head said they have solid evidence.

I watched the new conference at 1:45 today. This is a little too close for comfort. Canton is just a few miles from me and my son lives in Canton. I hope this is the right guy and that he is off the streets for good.

14. Out of curiosity RebelOne,
were you ever truly concerned for you or your son's safety?

Or are you just saying that you're surprised something like this happened too close to home for comfort?

15. My son is old enough to take care of himself.
And no, I am not surprised that this happened too close to home for comfort. If the law got the right man, I am glad he is off the street. Stuff like this happens all the time, but this was an exceptionally horrible crime.

17. Talk about too close for comfort.
The alleged killer is at the Cherokee County jail. My ex-daughter-in-law is the nighttime nurse there. I don't have to worry about her safety because whenever she has to treat a prisoner, she is accompanied by deputies.
