UN warns of mutant strain of bird flu virus
Source: aljazeera

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has warned of a possible resurgence of the deadly bird flu virus, saying that a mutant strain is spreading in Asia.

A mutant strain of the H5N1 avian influenza, which can apparently sidestep defences of existing vaccines, is spreading in China and Vietnam, the UN agency said in a statement on Monday.

"Virus circulation in Vietnam poses a direct threat to Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia as well as endangering the Korean peninsula and Japan," it said.

It called for greater surveillance to contain its outbreak, saying there could be a "major resurgence" of the disease.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. That worldwide whip up the fear of flu time of year is upon us once again. The difference with this one is that they are admitting that vaccines aren't effective, they don't seem to be shilling for the pharmaceutical corporations like they did with last years H1N1 variety. So just in case, things that help our family are Vitamin D drops, selenium, oil of oregano, vitamin C, lots of rest and sweat it out.

1. It's a shame that the vaccine company's stock prices might take a hit
Profits are going to go down if the product is ineffective.

4. Some fears are well founded.
With our ever-smaller world, the possibility of a quick spreading deadly virus
that could take out tens of thousands or much more is very real.

It shouldn't keep us from living our lives, but we can help ourselves by having well-run
govt agencies that focus on prevention and monitoring, and have plans in place for all contingencies.

The recent movie "Contagon" is actually a very realistic portrayal of what could happen.
