Amish man refuses ID photo, U.S. won't let him in
http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/04/27/canada/amish_photo040427

KITCHENER, ONT. - A Canadian man has been separated from his wife and child because he refuses on religious grounds to let U.S. immigration officials take his picture.

Daniel Zehr, 29, of Kitchener, Ont., belongs to an Old Order Amish sect. He believes the Bible's prohibition against "graven images" includes photographs.

... He entered the United States as a non-immigrant visitor following their June 2001 marriage.

... When they tried to go back across the border, Zehr was told he had "self-deported" and wouldn't be allowed to return to the United States without photo identification.

1. Ah, yes...the mighty Bureau of Fatherland Security at work...
...I'm so glad that they're defending the borders of the U. S. against those dreadfully mean Amish terrorists.

I mean really...the thought of those slow-moving horse-drawn carriages and all of that horse-poop on the highway just causes me to want raise the alert-level to the max!!

3. Really, he's much better off in truly free and democratic Canada.
I can only hope he will be able to re-unite with his wife and child who are presently stuck in the fascist USA.

4. US tourism is down about a third, last I heard
Guess the Bushies feel their wealth is best found by going overseas and getting it themselves.

5. It's not just tourists they are losing, it's retirees also
.
.
.

I had long ago decided to retire to the States after my stay there in 1979 - 80.

Now, I won't even considering crossing the border, which I even used to do to experience a wee bit of the states and took a roundabout trip from Fort-Erie statestide to visit family in Kingston.

And as far as retirement?

It'll be either somewhere in Canada not too close to the border or anything that the US might want like Oil or Nuke plants,

or maybe even another continent.

I'll spend my retirement $$ anywhere BUT the USA now,

hmmm

maybe CUBA just as a sort of "take that"

Everyone I've met up here that has visited Cuba loves it there.

Us Dumm Canuks didn't jump on that embargo bandwagon either.

But then again, the BFEE has Cuba in their cross-hairs too.

Where IS a place that the USA would leave alone?
