Anti-war protests in DuPage County (Republican Chicago suburb)
One-year after Bush's "accomplished" speech
May 1, 2004 — President Bush defends the speech he gave proclaiming mission accomplished in Iraq one year later as anti-war protestors call for an end to military actions.

It's one of the first times that Chicago peace groups and other anti-war groups have ventured to the western suburbs -- usually a great source of Republican support for President Bush -- to preach their anti-war message and call for a non-violent solution to conflict. While some are embracing the call for peace, others say force may be the only way to get it.

On the one-year anniversary of President Bush's statement of the end of major combat in Iraq, several peace groups along with anti-war protestors came together in the western suburbs to demand that U.S. troops come home.

"We went in (without knowing a lot) about the culture," said Melissa Foestell, Peace Fair participant.

"I agree with these people...economic interests," said Victor Hernandez, Peace Fair participant.

1. It seems humanity is setting its own precedent in protests,...
,...all around the globe. This HAS to be of historical proportions, the unification of people in such a way.

2. I used to live
in DuPage County. Henry Hyde is the congresscritter from this area.

If support for Bush is cracking here, it is good news indeed.

5. That is why I posted it. Had to read it twice to believe what it said.
A year ago protesters would have been tarred and feathered in Dupage.
