Cadet creep (West Point cadet puts female cadets pic on net)
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/189460p-163851c.html

A West Point cadet snapped illicit pictures of female classmates and posted them online where other cadets could ogle them, Army officials charge.
Mark Conliffe, a senior at the U.S. Military Academy, is accused of taking photographs of eight women, most of them fellow cadets, in various states of undress without their knowledge, officials said.

He then loaded the photos into his computer, which is hooked to the academy's network, and made them accessible to other cadets, an academy spokesman said.

Conliffe, 23, faces up to 25 years in military confinement, dismissal from the Army and could lose the right to graduate with his class.

Cadet Mark Conliffe, No. 62, suited up for Army team photos.

How awful to find out that the child you've raised, you thought, pretty successfully, a senior at a prestigious military academy, an honor student, is, in reality, a total dumbass.

9. Again, the overwhelming culture of compliance and comformity ...
Edited on Sun May-02-04 06:31 PM by TahitiNut
... indicates to me that this is NOT an "isolated incident." As a first-classman, there's little doubt in my feeble mind that there's a group of his classmates that've been well aware of this and, at a bare minimum, have been a happy audience.

When you take the long 'tradition' of harrassment and hazing of plebes (freshmen), such violations of human dignity are undoubtedly NOT limited to a single cadet.

18. We are changing such "traditions",...one day at a time,...yes?
We are making a difference and are a part of paving a more respectful road: enhancing equality and growing integrity.

Unlike some,...I believe that, once humanity tasted the real fruit of peace and possibility,...there was no turning back. In my view, from my perspective, humanity has tasted the best fruit of being valuable. There is no turning back,...and the only ones left to violently struggle are those incapable of human dignity, decency, equality and justice.

20. It's the good 'ol boys club mentality
I've watched it happen at the AF Academy a few times.

Every one is shocked and outraged when it happens. And promises are made from our elected officials that it will never happen again. It last from five to ten years and the reports start coming in again.
But no one talks about what happens in those in between years.

Do other counties have the same sex problems in Military Installations and Institutions that the U.S. has?

22. did you ever hear my story, 0007?
back when I was an airman in the Air Force, a certain sergeant was always trying to paw me. I warned him a few times and one day he cornered me in an office and tried it again and I grabbed the nearest thing - one of those big giant staplers - and smashed his face with it. Broke his nose and some teeth. He yelled about pressing charges and I told him to go ahead, I would get statements from half the women on the base about what a creep he was. Not only did he not press charges, he did NOT mess with me again, proving that they can INDEED "help themselves". :D

23. "Being strong and courageous",...I commend you, Skittles.
As a child support advocate, I was backed into a corner by a brute twice (and I DO mean TWICE) my size. He literally, physically cornered me, as we walked out of the hearing room.

I utilized all of my 115 lbs. and my far more weighty voice (very loudly *hee hee*) condemning his bullying. I must have "won", because,...the whole courthouse seemed "on fire" and that asshole had a distinct blood-colored tone to his skin.

Then again, I was lucky to have had both a favoraable reputation and a helluva lot of deputies on my side *LOL*.

this won't hurt his military career.

(Wasn't there a recent story about some guy not be punished for something a little worse than this?)

14. In my wild and crazy youth, I had a date at West Point.
I visited for a weekend. I cannot remember how I made the contact. I must tell you that I came from an extremely poor family . My father was a veteran in WW II who did not get further in his education than the eighth grade.
I grew up in a "veteran's barracks" that was a three room type of a barrack that was built in the most poor part of town and we had three rooms for a family of five. One room for myself and my two brothers and one room for the parents and the other room a combination of a kitchen and a living room. We often had rats under these barracks.

However, living there and growing up there, in that location, the poorest part of town that was located in a part of town where the blacks were predominant, was my first exposure to the wonderful world of ingetration before integration ever was a concept. It made no difference to me at all, as I remember it.

My father, however, was, the most beautiful and the most talented and inovative musician one could ever have heard. He was a genius in that respect and many a night as I remember going to sleep to his beautiful music that he made on his guitar.

Anyhow, as I remember it when I had a date at West Point as a young girl, almost fifty years ago, the exploits of many a cadet were shared all over the place between the cadets.

There was no internet but there was, certainly, and very vigorous word of mouth.

15. When you train people to act like animals
Then most of them will get very good at acting like animals.

The message from the Commander in Chief down is this is okay. Unless, of course, someone comes up with pictures. Then it's an isolated incident.

He didn't do it a month before graduation, he was caught a month before graduation.

Odds are, this has been going on for a good long while, and one of the women just found out and went ballistic.
