Boy who became poster child for Gore's campaign dies
Associated Press
<<EVERETT, Wash. - Ian Malone, a severely brain damaged little boy who became a poster child for Al Gore's presidential campaign when an HMO threatened to cut his coverage, has died at age 4 1/2.

SNIP

"When we met the vice president, we had come to a fork in the road," Dylan Malone said at the time. "One direction was Ian's a martyr, and the other direction was Ian's a poster child. I'm really glad he got to be a poster child." On Saturday, Gore was one of the first people to call and offer condolences, he said.>>

3. I posted this info in the Lounge late Saturday
because there was no news story to link to yet. I hope the mods will not consider this a dupe, since my post was based on personal information, not a news story.

(This is a recent photo of Ian)

Ian's parents, Dylan and Christine Malone, are good friends of mine. They are very active in the Washington State Democratic Party and have spent endless hours fighting to improve health care. We run AlGoreDemocrats.com together.

I know that some folks will want to send flowers to the family. In lieu of flowers, the Malone family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Snohomish County 2731 Wetmore Suite 500 Everett, WA 98201.

6. Sympathies to the family
I'm sorry for their loss.

I never believed the media script about Al Gore. He always seemed like a fine man to me.
