No change in Iraq policy: Bush
From correspondents in Niles, Michigan
04may04

US President George W Bush insisted today that he would not change policy on the proposed June 30 handover of limited authority to Iraq, despite the growing troubles there.

"I am not going to change my mind," Bush said in an election campaign speech in Niles in northern Michigan. "We are doing the right thing."

More than 150 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since April 1 amid a fierce US crackdown on Iraqi insurgents. Almost 750 have died since the US-led invasion on March 20 last year.

"We will not allow them to die in vain. Iraq will be free," Bush said.

This is so stubborn bull headedness. The current way is so wrong and our soldiers are dying in vain because Bush is being stubborn and not changing to adjust.

9. "Stay the Course" hoo-yah hoo-ey
Well said Triana. I think the only way that Kerry can lose (notwithstanding e-voting and suspension of the Bill of Rights) is if * does a complete turnaround on Iraq and gets the heck out of there.

Co-opting Kerry's and others more rational policies is one option * has, but he's not going to do that, it appears.

Not that Kerry is saying to get out either, but I just wonder how much discussion has gone on amongst the Rove-like in the W.H. on a cut'n'run strategy.

7. Only someone as ignorant and stupid
as Chimp would ever say they would NEVER change their mind. Much as we might like to stick to a certain course of action, most of us are reasonable enough to understand that if certain changes occur, we might also have to change our plans accordingly.

He might think that he's showing resolve, when in truth, all he is showing is his arrogance and inability to think. He disgusts me. I never thought that the United States would stoop to the lows we have under his regime.

I might plan an outdoor event tomorrow, but if a hurricane blows in, I'd be well advised to change plans. Dubya would go anyway, and wonder why he was getting wet.

10. He has already changed policy drastically but pretends he hasn't
Bush is pure bs. He's so full of bs he wouldn't know the truth if the b s'd in his face. He's like the guy that accidentally hits the eight ball in the side pocket when he was shotting the six in the corner and claims afterward "I meant to do that." Homeland Security, the 9/11 commission, are examples. Now he throws his hot Iraqi potato in the UN's lap, cuts and runs from Fallujah, changes course back to giving command to Saddam's generals, and all the time bullshits the media into believing he's resolute and strong. He's a timid little weenie boy who backs down whenever anyone really takes him on. Bring him on.

Typical Republican attack machine trick. Accuse the other guy of the crimes that you yourself commit.

13. Yeah, Dubya will stay the course.
On June 30, he'll hand over Iraq to the council, no the Baathist general, no the London exiles, no ... oh well, he'll hand it over to somebody. Now that's constancy! (Or is it ideological constipation?)
