Cheney Says Kerry Would Raise Taxes, Choke Economy

May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Democrat John Kerry would ``choke'' the U.S. economy with ``a major new tax increase'' if elected president.

Kerry's record as a four-term U.S. senator from Massachusetts shows ``that he expects that billions of dollars in tax increases will somehow create new jobs,'' Cheney said in a speech to about 700 Wal-Mart Stores Inc. employees at the company's Bentonville, Arkansas headquarters. ``Senator Kerry's tax hikes would choke entrepreneurs and cut the recent job growth in our country.''

Bush, 57, and Cheney, 63, credit the $1.7 trillion worth of tax cuts passed during their administration for helping boost the U.S. economy and restart job growth. Kerry, 60, says Bush hasn't done enough to stem the loss of 1.8 million jobs since taking office in January 2001.

``The truth is, John Kerry has proposed cutting taxes for American businesses that create jobs here at home and cutting taxes on 98 percent of Americans,'' Kerry spokesman David Wade in a telephone interview in response to Cheney's comment.

Imagine all of the things we need education, infastructure, military, homeland security, clean air fuel DEVELOPMENT as a gigantic extra large Pizza that we all split the tab for. the more people that pay in the cheaper the pizza. The more tax payers in the economy MEANS LOWER TAXES FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!

6. Kerry only said he would only raise taxes on the rich
I trust him on that. My only gripe is that I consider anyone making more than 50k to be rich and they should pay more. The only way we can create a better welfare state for the needy and those that can't work is to raise taxes on the better off. I only make 30k but I am willing to have another 1-3k taken out of my paycheck to help the needy.

We can all do more.

8. You are a kind and generous person.
I don't think that Kerry would raise taxes on people in your income bracket. One thing that is happening though, is that Bush's trashing of the economy is raising state and local taxes for everybody.

It's a fact that people with lower incomes are more generous and give a higher proportion of their income to the needy. T

You got some nerve showing up and making a remark like you just posted. I hope one of the knocks you out of here. I wouldn't want to spoil their fun by doing it myself.

9. That's a Cheney ENDORSEMENT FOR Kerry, eh?
    from the article:
Vice President Dick Cheney said Democrat John Kerry would ``choke'' the U.S. economy with ``a major new tax increase'' if elected president.

Ok, given that Cheney/* predicted that their 2 massive tax cuts for the wealthy would generate jobs and increased tax revenues -- the opposite of the results -- shouldn't Cheney's prediction be taken as a sign that Kerry's economic plans would be a boon for the economy?

11. This is such BS!
The tax cuts were first introduced as a way to give the surplus back to the "people". Then the recession hit, but rather than review the soundness of a tax cut under the changed circumstances they just changed the marketing mantra. Suddenly the tax cuts were to provide stimulus. I cannot think of any other time that tax cuts were pushed in a recessionary period. Maybe I missed something but I really can't think of any sound reason to believe tax cuts during a recession make sense, yet this Bozo pushed through 3 of them.

15. Same tune they were singing in '93, after Clinton raised taxes on the...
...wealthiest, and we all the know how badly that choked the economy back then, right? Please!

These goofballs need to be reminded of their Chicken Little predictions back then, and how vast prosperity occured instead.

17. I'd rather be alive and chocking than squeezed to death, dead
which is what Bush has done to the economy.

And Kerry isn't raising taxes, he's going to allocate the tax burden fairly, which will REVIVE the economy.

He's giving the economy CPR. Or resurrecting it.

28. Wal-Mart employees = entrepreneurs?
Did Dipwad bother asking how many new entrepreneurs were in the audience he was addressing? I'm sure thousands of minimum-wage Wal-Mart employees have gotten the old "entrepreneurial spirit" and started up new business ventures with all the money they have saved from their tax cuts. Sheesh.....
