WP: President Gets Back on the Bus
(snip)

Although Bush has given the fewest news conferences of any modern president, the campaign on Monday introduced a new event format called "Ask President Bush," which allowed people who had been given tickets by Bush supporters to lob mostly friendly questions.

Bush left Air Force One behind after landing in Indiana at lunchtime on Monday. He was driven 225 miles through rural and suburban Michigan in a motor coach, past the Tasty Twist in Cassopolis and Hoppy's Yard and Garden in Schoolcraft, with flag-waving fans lining the streets of town after town. Inside, the bus was swank, complete with flat-screen televisions, a kitchenette and leather captain's chairs. His entourage included seven other buses for staff, Secret Service and journalists.

(snip)

Bush took nine questions, all of them friendly and open-ended except one woman's inquiry about a cut in federal funds for a program that helped 120 senior citizens in three counties volunteer as foster grandparents in local schools. "Well, that's what you get for trying to make sure the deficit gets cut in half," he said, and encouraged the questioner to continue volunteering.

Asked about his frequent references to God in speeches, Bush said his job "is never to promote religion."

"You're just as strong a patriot if you worship and then if you don't worship," he said. "Personally, I do rely upon the Almighty."

Bush said he is reading Oswald Chambers, a Scottish-born devotional writer and author of "My Utmost for His Highest," who died in 1917. "If you've read Oswald Chambers, you'll understand that Oswald Chambers is a pretty good gauge to test your walk," he said.

1. Some people on the left need to get into the events and ask questions!
Hopefully Code Pink or some other groups will get inside and ask Bush some real questions!

If President Asshole really reads Oswald Chambers, then why does he act like Oswald Mosley?

8. It's a STAGE SHOW ..
He's like a totally different person, when scripted.

He reads. He's cutting the deficit in HALF!!! (what a truckload of manure THAT one is)

He takes a BUS, along with a CARAVAN of seven more !!

Freedom of religion is now allowed!!

Some of his speeches sound more and more like KERRY!!

He makes JOKES about his LIES!!

There is not an ounce of integrity in any part of his being. He is the most splintered person I have ever observed (he beats Sybil by light years).

"War is the most damnably bad thing" --Oswald Chambers

But then again, Chambers also went on to say, "it is not being reconciled to the fact of sin that produces all the disasters in life."

He's either riding the short bus, or the cherry-picker.

5. Dear Leader is allowing the people to ask questions of him?
But Dear Leader usually speaks with the almighty. How honored we mere mortals are.

6. It will do him no good. They are reaching now. The numbers are falling and
they know not how to staunch the bleeding. So here we go, try the Humble Pie thingy by going with a Bus. Yeah, right. It ain't gonna work. Bush is toast

If he had some class, he would apologize to the Iraqi people and resign.

11. Oswald Chambers: Whither Compassionate Conservatism?
"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit." Ephesians 6:18

As we go on in intercession we may find that our obedience to God is going to cost other people more than we thought. The danger then is to begin to intercede in sympathy with those whom God was gradually lifting to a totally different sphere in answer to our prayers. Whenever we step back from identification with God's interest in others into sympathy with them, the vital connection with God has gone, we have put our sympathy, our consideration for them in the way, and this is a deliberate rebuke to God.

It is impossible to intercede vitally unless we are perfectly sure of God, and the greatest dissipator of our relationship to God is personal sympathy and personal prejudice. Identification is the key to intercession, and whenever we stop being identified with God, it is by sympathy, not by sin. It is not likely that sin will interfere with our relationship to God, but sympathy will, sympathy with ourselves or with others which makes us say - "I will not allow that thing to happen." Instantly we are out of vital connection with God.

Intercession leaves you neither time nor inclination to pray for your own "sad sweet self." The thought of yourself is not kept out, because it is not there to keep out; you are completely and entirely identified with God's interests in other lives.

Discernment is God's call to intercession, never to fault finding.

My Utmost for His Highest, May 3rd

13. You have to help people even if it hurts them?
I don't know. That's how I read this passage. That's not something I would want the guy with control of ten thousand nuclear warheads to take too literally.

14. that's how I read it at first, but it's actually more sinister
It would be sinful to feel sympathy, contrary to God's will, and arrogant.

Now, what do you make of the following:

"Our nation stands alone right now in the world in terms of power, and that is why we've got to be humble and yet project strength in a way that promotes freedom"

???

:scared:

15. Yes that interpretation is even scarier
And probably more correct, as it works in the whole "sinful" angle. So, by this reading, Bush is saying he is God's instrument, and will show no mercy in carrying out God's will, as that would be sinful and arrogant.

I hope he's not that crazy.

18. sounds like he's really still searching for god
not, as he claims, already on good speaking terms.
One would think he would be choosing to read instead a little about middle eastern history and the fine art of statesmanship diplomacy, which is somewhat different than carpetbagger salesmanship.
I watched him on c-span today and was appalled that this guy has the power to bully other nations by his control of the military and cia.

25. Like this line
"Bush was introduced at the first two stops by first lady Laura Bush, who compared the bus trip to their journeys in an Oldsmobile when he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in Texas in 1978."

Did she tell that funny story again about how, when she offered Bush some criticism of one of his speeches, he deliberately smashed their car into a garage wall?
