U.N. report on Iraq human rights due soon

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations hopes to issue a report on human rights in Iraq by the end of May.

The report will arrive after published photographs emerged which show U.S.-led occupation forces abusing Iraqi prisoners and will follow a U.N. fact-finding mission led by Icelandic lawyer and human rights expert Jakob Moller.

"It will be looking at events and issues related to human rights in Iraq over the past year," U.N. human rights spokesman Jose-Luis Diaz said on Tuesday.

The U.N. team have not been to Iraq, but will rely on information from local staff, media reports, human rights groups, the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority and the Iraqi Governing Council.

Will it be a whitewash or will the UN take a stand against the US? I'm hoping for the later.
