Aides say Rumsfeld to apologize to Congress
WASHINGTON — Battling Democratic demands for his resignation, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld crafted an apology to Congress today for failing to keep lawmakers informed about abuses of Iraqi prisoners in U.S. custody, defense officials said.

"The secretary does have a lot of questions to answer," said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., hours before Rumsfeld's command appearances before a pair of congressional committees.

Fresh disclosures surfaced even as Rumsfeld prepared for his testimony.

In Geneva, The International Red Cross said it had warned U.S. officials of abuse of prisoners in Iraq more than a year ago.

1. He needs to apologize to us, to the world, and then he needs to
march his fucking ass off to a war-crimes tribunal.

He has shamed the United States.

5. Oh, well, that makes everything right
yep, after that apology, I guess America won't be seen as a nation that tortures abuses and otherwise humiliates the very people we are claiming to be helping get on their feet.

6. Congress wasn't wronged and abused, the Iraqis were.
The administration needs to not only apologize to the Iraqis, bush needs to fire Rumsfeld as the first step toward restoring world faith in the United States. Of course it would really help if the whole administration were handed over to the Hague for war crimes, but I don't expect that to happen.
