Bush Again Apologizes for Abuse of Iraqis
CAIRO, Egypt - President Bush (news - web sites) acknowledged "times are tough" for the United States and the Middle East and repeatedly apologized for U.S. soldiers' conduct in Iraq (news - web sites) in an interview published by an Egyptian newspaper Friday.

Bush also backed away from the "road map" peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians, saying that keeping the promise of a Palestinian state by 2005 "may be hard." He did not give a new timetable.

The editors of Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper who conducted the interview didn't ask about the future of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. Critics have called upon Rumsfeld to resign for his handling of the prisoner-abuse scandal.

Bush mentioned Rumsfeld only once in the interview, speaking of "our Secretary of Defense, in whom I've got confidence and believe in."

Really catching on to this whole apology thing huh? Too little too late in my book.

1. Apparently he didn't get Leiberman's memo
9/11 means never having to say you're sorry.

15. That is going a bit far
I heard his speech too and I don't have a strong lingering impression, favorable or otherwise.

I was more impressed by Senator McCain.

24. But, The Machinist
How does his comment make sense? What do the people of Iraq have to do with 9/11? Weren't most of the hijackers from Saudi Arabia? I thought we were in Iraq to liberate the people. To me, his comment was nonsensical.

2. If I had a quarter for every time that asshat said "times are tough"..
Edited on Fri May-07-04 12:32 PM by KissMyAsscroft

Kerry should make a clip with all of the times Bush has said that during his presidency in reference to jobs, and healthcare, and the war...just one after the other.

I swear to God, every time I see that prick give a speech he is saying "It's been tough folks! But things are lookin up!!"..

Yeah, I'm sure Halliburton is doing great you fucking criminal. I bet our tax dollars are buying all of their execs nice new SUVs.

3. you got it ...too little, too late
what a complete embarrassment...he could have apologized when he did the interviews on Arab TV. But he was still in cowboy mode then. However, after checking the focus groups, polls and public outrage he apologizes to King Abdullah.

18. The King of Jordan
Why are we apologizing to the King of Jordan for abuses that happened in Iraq?
This is too funny. Any A-rab will do in a pinch, huh?

Maybe if we sent Bar after him with a hickory switch he'd do a little better apologizing. As it is, doggerel verse just doesn't quite cut it:

Times are tough
It's plain to see
So here's your fucking

5. Read my lips, Georgie
"I can't tell you how sorry I am to them and their families for the humiliation," (Bush) said. "I'm also sorry because people are then able to say, `Look how terrible America is.'"

You are? Well, so am I. And I'm sure the prisoners and their families are sorry they were humiliated, too. But unlike us, Georgie, you had a hand in CAUSING the humiliation--THAT'S what you should be apologizing for! "I'M SORRY THAT OUR TROOPS TORTURED YOUR PRISONERS"--get it?

13. He can't be sorry enough
Dumbya is a person who lacks adequate compassion to comprehend the suffering and humiliation of these people. And because he's never had to take responsibility for his inappropriate conduct, errors in judgement, and miscalculations; he can't even understand that a large share of the blame belongs to him.

"Sorry" doesn't cut it with this misadminstration. They need to step down.

16. Bush is sorry alright
No question about it.
Nothing he can say can ever be believed.
His only regret is that this came to the attention of the media.
He can apologize until the cows come home, but it is far too late.

Too little, too late = too bad.

17. Too little, too late..
he's trying usurp the impact of the Red Cross report. HE and the others KNEW of the abuses last year! And he has been saying he JUST found out about them. No wonder the chimp never talks under oath about anything... avoiding impeachment. He needs to be impeached for all of his lies and dirty dealings.. but until we get some control back in D.C., it'll never happen.

While I'm focussing on the presidential race, we should NEVER let our efforts stray from the House races... we need some control back, some balance. Or else our next Democratic President will suffer the attacks by the republicans daily.

23. Sharon and Palestine
Ironically, we may be thankful someday the hawks in Israel voted down Sharon's plan and rendered worthless Bush's concessions that were a blatant gift to win this and probably something else dangerous and secret from Sharon.
