N.Y. Removes Controversial Parking Meter

Tuesday May 11, 2004 4:01 PM

<snip>
NEW YORK (AP) - The city wasted no time in mollifying motorists angry over a case of meter madness.

A parking meter in Brooklyn was so close to a fire hydrant that parking there meant risking a $115 ticket.

State law requires that cars park at least 15 feet from hydrants - leaving only 12 feet, 5 inches between the meter and the buffer zone. Only a tiny car such as the Mini Cooper, measuring just 11.9 feet, could fit in that space; a Ford Taurus would be about 4 feet too long.

The city removed the meter on Tuesday, following a front-page headline in the Daily News.

10. If a parking zone were marked off for the meter, ...
its dimensions should guide, not a law on the books that conflicts with it. If the parking zone itself is illegal, that is the city's fault -- ticket the city.

2. Somewhere, a Mini Cooper driver is saying "Dammit!"
Not to be confused with a Mini Driver, who was way cuter before her starvation diet and whatever facework she seems to have had.

3. Mini Driver....who in turn should not be confused with a .......
Screwdriver: essential kit for sabotaging parking meters that don't comply with coin deposits. Also famous name for alcoholic drink served to those no doubt frustrated at being unable to a) park their cars b) get a date with Mini Driver c) etc.........

4. screwdriver, not to be confused with piledriver
the wrestling move made famous by the Undertaker, which is what you want to do to the meter maid who wrote you that ticket in the first place.

6. Piledriver? is that related to a Kneetrembler, something you might
consider as an alternative if the meter maid is a) pretty b) cancels your ticket and c) takes up that offer of a Screwdriver on the rox?

7. That's an odd solution
Can't that get your car booted or impounded?

12. How could parking your motorcycle on the sidewalk, sans plates ...
get your car impounded (that is, unless it was a Mini Cooper strapped to the back of the motorcycle)?
