BBC Analysis: US dream for Iraq in doubt
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3704561.stm

Already the American neo-conservative dream of a model Iraqi democracy in the Middle East is vanishing.

In the Arab world and beyond, the occupiers can no longer boast the moral credentials to guide it.

One senior Western diplomat illustrated their sharply reduced ambitions by saying that he did not despair of getting an Iraq that was better than Saddam Hussein's.

The supposed transfer of sovereignty at the end of June, with the Americans still in military charge, looks increasingly hollow after the pictures of maltreated and humiliated Iraqi prisoners.

If Mr Bush could think of a convincing way out of Iraq, he would be tempted to take it.

5. In doubt? In doubt?
What could there possibly be to doubt?
We lost the war months ago. We are in the Iraq-ization phase of turning it over to the puppet govt while we bug out. In doubt?

This is an understatement.

7. Huh?
We went into Iraq to secure America's presence in the oil rich region? I thought we went in because Saddam was a bad man who had all these zillions of weapons. Nobody said anything about securing our position in the Middle East. Huh, did I miss something??

<sarcasm off>

10. If Kerry gets elected it going to fall to Dems to clean this up
I think if Kerry is President the Senate will be Dem also. Then it falls to us to clean up Bush's mess. I hope he is formulating a plan just in case it happens. I don't want the war's failure to happen on Kerry's watch. He needs to articulate a plan for our withdrawal pretty soon.
