House Votes to Lock In Part of Tax Cut
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=5&u=/ap/20040513/ap_on_go_co/tax_brackets_7

House Democrats gave the bill strong support despite worries it would worsen budget deficits at a time of war. The bill cuts taxes more than $218 billion over a decade.

"This is financial madness," said Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn. "Our country is engaged in a death spiral financially."

The House rejected, 227-190, a Democratic alternative that would have kept the expanded bottom bracket in place through 2010. To cover the tax cut's cost, Democrats wanted to levy a 1.9 percent surcharge on individuals who earn $500,000 or more and on couples who earn at least $1 million.

Let me see if I've got this straight -- this is the same House that is about to swallow Bush*'s request for another 25 billion for his war without blinking? How do they expect to pay for it?

Oh, right. On the backs of those who rely on what we once could call a "social safety net". How very naive of me. </sarcasm>

1. Expanding the bottom bracket is smart, and adding a new bracket at
500k/1m is also smart, and if they need more revenue, they should add anothe brackeet at 1m/2m.

3. I watched a little yesterday evening
when they where debating in the house (if you want to call it that) it's more like a repuke dictatorship in the House.
Anyway Congressman Jim McDermott went to the floor and believe me my writing doesn't do his points justice but here it goes. He took out a $20.00 dollar bill and two credit cards and spoke of how the American families spend the money on their food. Families can't run up their debt like the repukes and just say oh we aren't going to worry about that debt over there. He held up the cards and said one card represented Social Security and the other Medicare that the pukes are running the debt up on Again. (I thought to myself yep how many times have I heard Credit Card Republicans on DU) Just like they did during the Raygun years and they didn't learn a thing from it.
He also brought up the old saying when your in a hole you don't keep digging but your side is (speaking about the pukes) and We (the democrats) are going to have to clean this mess up again like we did in 94'. I need to get a TIVO :) He said the digging the hole with a steam shovel, I think? See that's why I need TIVO he said that really really good and I can't verbatim quote him.
