Iraqi Newspaper Urges Rumsfeld to Resign
May 15, 2004, 6:57 AM EDT

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A major Iraqi newspaper urged U.S. Defense Minister Donald H. Rumsfeld to resign in an editorial Saturday, joining the international outcry for him to step down over the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal.

It also cited a meeting he held with Saddam Hussein in the 1980s when he served in the administration of former President Ronald Reagan.

"Rumsfeld, known for his past links with Saddam should have announced his resignation in Baghdad to satisfy the poor Iraqi people," the newspaper Azzaman said in a front page editorial.

1. since the mal-administration's current
talking point regarding Iraq is "that we will leave if asked" and the unimplied threat is that they better not ask - it seems that they are asking that Rummy resign.

So, hey! Rummy, start packing!

2. The CPA won't shut this paper down. It's run by the CPA

The guy who runs it is one of Chalabi's thugs. They are doing this to try and give the paper some credibility. There is no free press in Iraq. The US proved that when they closed Sadr's paper down a few months ago. I will never trust anything coming from an Iraqi newspaper. Here is a little bit about the guy who is running it.
