Army may send special reserves to active duty involuntarily

The U.S. Army is scraping up soldiers for duty in Iraq wherever it can find them, and that includes places and people long considered off-limits.

The Army on Tuesday confirmed that it pulled the files of some 17,000 people in the Individual Ready Reserve, the nation's pool of former soldiers. The Army has been screening them for critically needed specialists and has called about 100 of them since January.

Under the current authorization from Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, the Army could call as many as 6,500 back on active duty involuntarily...

The Defense Department would like to be able to tap IRS records for the addresses of those it has lost touch with. The proposal is likely to be challenged by privacy rights advocates.

5. Today on Rhandi Rhodes
a caller said taht a retired Colonel puts the day of activation at
July 1st...

Now usually I do not take radio whispers as gospel, but given all other data... I think this guy, who was quoting a friend who is a retired full bird, is correct.

Now those who smell a draft, the last time this reserve was touched it was WW II... not only that but that time they were touched AFTER draftees were inducted.

This tells me that these people will be used to plug holes and I will go again on a limb. I expect the Draft to be imposed by Executive Order (the bill on the wings that has been introduced is pretty egalitarian and the Repuke bill woudl have to be introduced and the discusion would not end in time), BEFORE the elections.

They HAVE RUN OUT OF PEOPLE, PERIOD.

6. Draft BEFORE elections?
But surely even * realizes that would cause a quick and certain defeat at the polls?

7. Elections are for terrorists
But surely even * realizes that would cause a quick and certain defeat at the polls?

But that doesn't matter if they're planning to not let the election happen in the first place.

8. Nope, as Rove will call the Dems who 'don't support our country'
unpatriotic. After that, most of the spineless Dems will be more than happy to support the bill.

Just as only a few Dems expressed their outrage after the 2000 coup d'etat, they will lay down for Bush dictatorship, once again.
