Poll finds voters unhappy with state's top leadership (Texas!)
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2577850

AUSTIN -- Against the backdrop of a collapsing special legislative session on property tax relief and public school finance, a new poll found Texans are unhappy with their top state elected leaders.

Texans gave poor job performance ratings to Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick in the newest Texas Poll.

The Legislature as an institution is at its lowest job approval rating in at least 20 years of Texas Poll surveys.

<snip>

Among Texans in general, Perry remains the most unpopular governor in 14 years -- with 37 percent approving of his performance as governor and 52 percent disapproving.

------------------------
For a Republican to poll this badly in Texas is incredible - and fun! SMU professor on NPR this morning: "He's in trouble." :D:thumbsup:

3. The idiot can't even ride herd on his fellow GOPbots in the Lege
How ineffectual can you get?

Apparently, Perry is NOT Tom DeLay's bitch. He's his inflatable party doll.

4. He's a dumb Dubya
which is quite hard to achieve.

I guess if the dems take back the texas house, we can redo the
congressional districts using their argument that the districts
must be representative of the people.

12. As Governor of Texas, he is definitely worse than Dubya.
As Republican Governors of Texas go, Dubya wasn't all that bad. He let Bob Bullock, a Democrat, be his mentor, and generally encouraged the state's (previous) traditions of bipartisanship. He also had some good things to say about the state's relationship with Mexico. Governor in Texas is mostly a ceremonial office anyway, although Perry has pushed it since his party swept the statewide offices and the Texas house.

6. Perry has got to be the worst politician in recent memory.
How can a Republican Governor be THAT unpopular in THIS state? Man, the 2005 legislative session and the 2006 Governor's race are going to be SOME FUN.

7. Pass the popcorn! Carol Keeton Rylander Bouvier McClure Strayhorn down too
Strayhorn has kept a bitter rhetorical barrage directed at Perry over the past several months. It may have kept Perry down, but it also has been a drag on Strayhorn's job approval numbers.

Strayhorn had a 46 percent job approval rating last fall, with 22 percent of the Texans surveyed unhappy with her work. But in the heat of her attacks, she now receives kudos from 39 percent of Texans and boos from 30 percent.

Hee hee hee :D

Apparently yet another GOP "sanctity of marriage" proponent. :eyes:

As info, her boy Scotty McClellan speaks for Smirky, and her other offspring Mark is the head of the FTC.

Got nepotism?

thick with rethuglicans. For Perry to have a 37% approval rating is amazing. Two more years and buh-bye Perry.

Can you recall a Governor in Texas? It would be such payback for Californians if Texans recalled their Governor. :-)

I don't think there's another like it in the entire country.

17. The Austin Hair Helmet
The Austin Hair Helmet, aka Governor Goodhair, aka George W. Bush's fluffer, aka Governor Perry is a joke and always has been.

Let's face it, fellow Texans: Considering the drooling Republican majority in this state thought that the current President and most of his crew were the "Varsity" team, what does that mean we've been stuck with since 2000? That's right, the "Junior Varsity" to Bush's "Varsity."

Now if that doesn't make you shudder, I don't know what will.

18. The problem is
He is more likely to replaced by another Republican (Carole Keeton Strayhorn or Kay Bailey Hutchison) than by a Democrat. If he is this unpopular in two years, he will likely have a strong challenge by another Republican.

Edited on Wed May-19-04 11:08 AM by Richardo
Last night, against the 5-1 recommendation of his own pardons and parole board, which recommended commutation to a life sentence.

WTG, Perry - you're truly the "hair" apparent to the smirking executioner ("Don't kill me!", Gov Bush mocking Karla Tucker)

26. The GOP
has shown themselves to be as inept at stae politics as they are at the national level. They have no one to blame their failures on but themselves. Nevetheless, we will remain a one-party state for the immediate future, and the governorship is Kay Bailey Hutchinson's for the taking.
