What went wrong
Here's something that went VERY wrong":

<<<MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG: New York state ranks 49th among 50 states in per capita homeland security funding. During fiscal year 2004, New York State received $5.47 per capita in homeland security grants. Nebraska got $14.33 per capita. North Dakota, $30.42; Wyoming: $38.30. This is pork barrel politics at its worst.>>>

Bloomberg became a Republican in order to use his money to replace Guiliani as mayor of NYC but he at least brought this important statistic to light.

Thank-you Bush. Thank-you Tom Ridge. Thank you Congress. Thank you Department of Homeland Security (sic). What a sham. What a joke.

1. I have yet to see a government
department that didn't screw things up royally. Even things that were working good before the department was formed..i.e. Department of Education, 1976.

2. This is not mismanagement but
deliberate (mis)direction of funds. The idea that NY and NYC should not be number one in security/ terrorism money is just plain ABSURD. Shows that this DHS is purely a way to redistribute tax money to Republicans/ those who have power. Based on INFLUENCE, not real need and national security interests.

3. Nebraska gets too much homeland security funding
Edited on Thu May-20-04 09:04 PM by JoFerret
<<Bloomberg said it has the effect of aiding and abetting those who hate America and plot against it.>>

"What does that say about resolve to combat terrorism? This is pork-barrel politics at its worst. It is a kind of short-sighted nonsense that gives Washington a bad name," Bloomberg said.

At least Omaha thought it worthy of comment.

7. Who would have thought someone from Caucasia would attack us?
I remember all these co-workers coming up to me that day (of the OKC bombing) and acting in a very threatening manner - because I had always openly expressed disgust with US foreign policy.

The next day I was able to ask them when we could start the invasion of Caucasia.

So tell me okcdem: who do YOU think blew up the federal building?

Tut-tut

8. Somebody has to be 49th or else all should be equal
I don't think per capita is the right measurement for HSF.

10. No, the cronies and Republicans got the money. NY is not GOP
so therefore, they weren't high on the list.

Under * the money was used to buy votes.
