Making a bid for Congress

FALL RIVER -- A staunch opponent of gay marriage and former president of the conservative Massachusetts Family Institute, Ronald A. Crews announced his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. James McGovern Tuesday in Heritage State Park.
The Republican challenger began his campaign on the offensive, asserting his beliefs that homosexual couples should not have the same marriage rights as heterosexuals do and that abortion is immoral.
Crews called the recent Supreme Judicial Court decision to grant same sex couples the right to marry in Massachusetts an order made by "rogue judges" and said he will "fight for the values that thousands of people in Massachusetts believe in."
Crews even went as far as to say that he would support President George W. Bush’s proposal to formulate a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages across the nation.
