Delight Over Coup Is Evident in Transcripts (Kissinger/Chile)
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/28/politics/28tapes.html

Published: May 28, 2004
WASHINGTON, May 27 - Five days after a bloody coup on Sept. 11, 1973, that toppled Salvador Allende Gossens, the Marxist leader of Chile, Henry A. Kissinger chatted on the phone with President Richard M. Nixon about the event, which had clearly delighted both men.

After telling the president that he might go to the season opener for the Washington Redskins, Mr. Kissinger exulted in the toppling of a pro-Communist government and complained about how much the news media were lamenting the event. The press's attitude, he said, was steeped in "unbelievable filthy hypocrisy."

The conversation is part of a 20,000-page cache of transcripts of Mr. Kissinger's telephone conversations while he served as national security adviser and secretary of state that was released this week by the National Archives.

2. Our man Henry
once was heard to remark at a DC social gathering:

"nudting veddy interesting ever happens in the south"

That is, I guess, unless it's a right-wing fascist coup.

btw, anyone remember when Henry was voted most (cough) sexy man in America?

3. Was in France
at the time and what is being released today was known then.
All I can say at this point is: everybody at the time knew about U$ imperialism but the U$ and the sheeple still don't know a GD thing or didn't (and still don't) care to know. Are they immoral for not caring or believing what is done or was done in their name? .... Ignorance is no excuse for going against the law ...
Was in America earlier when I cited to others what the U$ was doing, got smacked, called being a communist, etc.
For an intorduction, read G. Vidal's: Empire for a gentle introduction into U$ imperialism. Read Kevin Phillips: Wealth and Democracy for an introduction to IMPERIALISLISM AND CORPORATISM.
And go see 'Good Bye Lenin' to warm your heart.

4. If there ever was a war criminal -- Kissinger!
This maniacal Dr. Strangelove has had a hand in countless vicious offenses against humanity. And to think Dubya was going to name this lying criminal to uncover the truth about 9/11!

6. Dr K wiretapped Nixon, as Nixon ran tapes of Dr K = "Trust"?
If I understand correctly, DR K arranged for 2 staffers to listen in and tape and then transcribe those tapes - destroying the tapes after Ford became Pres, and arranging with the archives to not release the 30000 transcribed pages until after his death.

A court case just broke the latter so we now can read these histories.

They sure can easily be read as Iraq neo con conversations with Bush - but that would be hypothetical and wrong!

:-)

5. The chilean coup was my introduction to politics
Chilean refugees from the Pinochet regime moved into our quiet German neighborhood some months after the coup. Although I still was a kid then I quickly learnt about the U.S. background.
