Radical French farmer draws huge crowds at rally
PARIS (Reuters)

Radical French farmer Jose Bove staged a forceful comeback to the world of anti- globalisation protests on Saturday, attracting over 150,000 people to a rally in southwest France just days after his release from jail.

By mid-afternoon the site in Larzac was nearly full to capacity, with more visitors stuck in traffic jams on the approach. Bove said the site would close once the numbers swelled to 200,000 -- double what the organisers had expected. --

The rally, which features concerts as well as debates, marks the 30th anniversary of the start of a 10-year campaign which stopped an army camp being built in the scenic Larzac hills. --

On the weekend's agenda at Larzac is the upcoming World Trade Organisation meeting in Cancun, Mexico in September, with Bove calling for protests on location.

3. "Radical" Farmer
I don't know if you guys know how he was arrested in the first place.
It's pretty funny. Remember that it's just one guy and that he's only exerced violence against rice crops (geneticaly modified) and a McDonald. Well the police certainly thought that they found binladen or something because they lauched the "attack" early in the morning with full squads (about 80 ppl) protected by bulletproof vests and shields, broke in his house (while an helicopter was hovering above), woke him up, cuffed him and took him right away in the chopper. That was just a month and a half ago (6/22) so apparently he was not such a danger after all.
Many think that a letter asking him to come to the police station would have sufficed.

(It was not the "Police" but the "Gendarmes" that did the arrest but to stay simple, we'll consider that it's more or less the same)
