Ambushes Kill Two U.S. Soldiers in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two U.S. soldiers were killed and a third wounded in separate attacks on their convoys in Iraq (news - web sites), the U.S. military said Thursday.

The first soldier was fatally shot Wednesday evening near the city of Mahnudiyah, 15 miles south of Baghdad, said Spc. Nicci Trent, a spokeswoman for the military.

Another soldier was killed and one wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack near Tikrit, 120 miles north of Baghdad. That attack was also Wednesday night, Trent said.

1. Anti-tank mines, RPGs, snipers?
Who cares!? Bring 'em on!

Every death of a US patriot is blood on the hands of the cabal.

2. Does seem to be on the news every day.
It is starting to be the story. We are done with the war so I think we can plan on Bush tap dancing for us up and down stairs so we will stop thinking about young men being killed dayly. The landing on carrier made him look like a fool so he will have to do something else for this news bit. Jumping fron plane you say? No his father did that.

16. According to a BBC reporter today, not all attacks make the news
BBC America had their reporter in Baghdad reporting on the deaths of the two Americans this morning when he said that there were daily anti-American demonstrations in Baghdad and that US troops were under attack every day, but that not all attacks "make the news ticker."

This may explain why there are gaps in news coverage about attacks in Iraq, as another DUer noted on a thread yesterday.

20. TIME Magazine said the same thing
In its current edition (haven't finished the article) the main article states that only firefights in which Americans/Brits are injured are reported. They have reported on firefights were only Iraqis were killed but probably not everyone of those either

21. injured?
you usually only hear about those in which someone was killed.

given that I keep hearing about US soldiers being killed, and little news about soldiers killing anyone, it's a wonder we ever won a war.

4. AWOL is doomed for bad press for the rest of his residency
Anytime he tries to go golfing or fishing or have a bbq, etc. he's gonna get his picture taken and it will look like he is having fun while his toy soldiers are getting slaughtered in a country is too chicken to step foot in.

He had better be cutting down on the long weekends and extended vacations and start working on a plan to fix the quagmire! Unfortunately, it won't happen.. several hundred, if not, a thousand americans will die over there so AWOL and Cheney's buddies can pad their pockets.

13. Well, the "bad press" hasn't started thus far.
Everytime I turn on the news they either gloss over this or begin to make excuses for they lying and deceiving. The first thing we need in this country is to boycott the RW news programs and their sponsors. We need to do some things even if it hurts ourselves for the short term. Turn off the TV TURN ON THE RADIO...even NPR but especially Pacifica and your local public broadcasting stations or foreign news if you can get it. Otherwise stick to the Internet. Keep bombarding the major media outlest with e-mails and letters of outrage over how they are choosing to protect this immoral and illegal administration.

27. I agree
with you. Where I live we have a community radio station, similar to public radio but without any institutional support, ie: independent.
It carries the news from the BBC and CBC. Very interesting to hear what is happening around the world unfiltered.
So yes folks, we gotta ride this horse until it drops from exhaustion. The GOP blundered and its time to make them pay.....

29. It can't be glossed over.
I have a neighbor who gets all her news from television. She asked me why soldiers are dying every day, after Bush declared the war over (or end of major combat, just twisting words).

People are noticing the relentless deaths.

Second service woman dies in Iraq

FORT CARSON, Colorado (AP) -- An Army sergeant killed by a gunshot wound in Iraq became the second U.S. servicewoman to die in the war.

Sgt. Melissa Valles, 26, of Eagle Pass, Texas, died Wednesday from non-combat injuries, according to the Defense Department. The accident in Balad, a city 55 miles north of Baghdad, was under investigation and details were not released.

8. He is avoiding the issue here
But he is getting the red ass treatment in S.africa right now. People have shown up in the thousands to protest him being there. He has stated that we can not send troops into Liberia to help with peace keeping, that is a big issue with the African people. He cut off funding to S. Africa, which he is visiting right now, because they did not agree to let the U.S. out of the ICC agreement. Their President had lunch with Bush then left the country, Nelson Madela said Bush does not think right and left the country during the Bush visit etc.. and the list goes on.

THE WORLD HATES HIM!!!!

The news of the deaths seem to be escalating ever so slightly that I can't keep track. I am not sure if the reports of the deaths of soldiers are one that I have already heard or brand new ones.

12. I have also
Reading the yahoo report there were two I hadn't heard about. My count so far including the four this week, two from non combat, is either 76 or 80 since 1 may 03.
I don't differentiate between combat and non combat, dead is dead, and they wouldn't be dead if a tinhorn dictator hadn't sent them to die for his personal profit.

24. At least one of the non-combat deaths was suicide
The military also reported that a soldier died Wednesday in what it described as a non-hostile gunshot incident. The military gave no more details. The names of the dead and wounded were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An American soldier attached to the 101st Airborne Division died Monday in another non-hostile gunshot incident near Balad, 55 miles north of the capital. Soldiers at an air base near Balad said on condition of anonymity that the soldier had taken his own life.

(Was the Wednesday death also suicide? It's not clear from this article.)

Yes, the way they let this trickle out is just like the FIRSTNAM. A few here a few there.

This time however there are a lot of Vets who are going to start making the CHIMP upset.

Wait until Wolfie, Cheney and the CHIMP bring up the NEW IMPROVED Draft. You ain't seen nothing yet.

11. Bush will never bring the troops back home because it will mean defeat
If Bush pulls the troops out he loses 2004 flat out without a contest because his "kill the ragheads, animals, etc" base will abandon him faster than a freeper wacks himself over pictures of Ann Coulter.

If Iraq continues the way it's going, I imagine Bush and his advisors will be hoping/praying for some economic turnaround because it'll be the only good thing going for them and money in the pocket of Joe Blow will cause Joe to not care about what else may be going on in the world.

15. chimps* in a corner
He's fucked the piggies are fucked, and they know it. We're stuck in Iraq for a long goddamn time and nobody is going to pull our fat out of the fire. Not Nato, not the UN, certainly not the coalition of the bribed.
There isn't an exit strategy, it's costing 4 bil a month, in all probability more, there's the dead and wounded, there's destroyed equipment.
There's the bad press we're getting all over the world, bad feelings, I'm not too damn proud of being american right now, I'd like to just slink away into a corner right now.
The trouble is things are going to get much worse, we haven't the troop strength to even begin holding the country. Those who are there are tired worn out, with flagging morale. They want to come home, their families want them home. They're stuck though, and the dead are going to increase geometrically.

30. Only with an UN mandate.
And even then only reluctantly. (Germany has hardly any 1st-grade troops left; talk is that conscripts would have to be used for this)

Anyway * would have to bow really low (and maybe have Rummy and Condi resign); I don't see him doing that.

Defying the WTO in the steel issue and pushing GM doesn't help either.

are news reports saying a total of 31 since the war ended?

I forced myself to look at CNN for 1st 5min at top of the hour.

It (2 USsoldiers' deaths was never the lead and I saw Iraq film once.

Nevertheless, I agree w/ Ruppert/fromthe wilderness that
the Uberputze's(David Cogswell) days are #ed. The Board of Directors that put him in are already working on a smooth transition of power.

Stay w/ it guys. We either pull out of Iraq/Afghanistan now
or later. Bring'em home!
