By Adam Entous

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign said on Saturday it has no plans to use Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) in campaign ads, but Republicans said his legacy would be invoked in other limited ways.

Administration officials said they doubted the Republican icon's death would have much impact in the presidential race and did not want to be seen as trying to capitalize on it for political gain one day after his funeral.

"You have to strike a delicate balance," an administration official said.

"It needs to be and will be subtle," Republican political consultant Scott Reed said of using Reagan's legacy in campaign speeches and events to rally Bush's conservative base.

4. They say ,"We're not going to use Reagan"
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 08:31 PM by Joanne98
then they say, "we'll be subtle about it". Which is the same thing as saying, "We're going to do it but be sneaky about it so we don't get caught". What a bunch of frigging idiots. No wonder Iraq is a diaster.

5. I guess the ads didn't test well ....
I'm sure Rove was broken up over it because I'm sure he would rather Dumbya run as Reagan rather than himself

6. Bullshit.
They will try everywhichway to adopt the mantle of Reagan.

Thing is they probably would get away with it if Ron didn't think so lowly of Bush and if Nancy would just come around and admit that stem cell research was the work of the devil.

Saw some pundits discussing how Nancy will be used at the convention, like she's some good little rethug who will do their bidding even after thay dissed her on stem cell research. The convention is 3 months away and Nancy might not be so willing to hawl water for BushCo.

That would be sweet.

9. Whatever they claim, make a mental note of the opposite.....
and watch it come true. It happens every time. Now as far as using Reagan, why shouldn't they? They could use Adobe Photoshop and make some hilarious photos of Reagan with his arm around Bush, and endorsing him publicly. Even though Reagan is younger and chronologically Bush would be just a 20-year old, but so what.

Or they could make a photo montage of Reagan and Bush sitting on horses. The two could be riding off into the sunset, wearing their 10-gallon cowboy hats, and they could play beautiful music in the background.

I'd laugh until tears started coming.

12. I've got a great ad for them!
Reagan, in his Alzheimer's state, being asked what he thinks about GWB.

Then they can pan out and say, "If Ronnie won't recognize George, why would you?"

Or...

"Republicans, stem cell research could have kept your beloved Ronnie around for a few more years. GWB didn't want that to happen. Did GWB help to kill Ronnie?"

13. I'll bet they study Reagan's style,
words he used and the upbeat tone and put it in Bush ads. If it worked for Reagan, it theoretically will work for dumbo.

14. The truth is...
The ONLY reason they're not using the Reagan ads is they didn't test well.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with a delicate balance. The simple concept of a delicate balance is beyond these idiots.

They make me so sick.

16. Reagan was plastered all over their website for the last week with links
to donate money.

Must have gotten some really negative feedback since they already paid to have commericals made using Reagan's death.
